It's V.A.-time over at Aterral Records. The exquisite curation thats been introduced by the labels previous catalogue of five solo artist EPs now evidently constitutes this first compilation release, joining Aterral mainstays with new inductees and upcoming talents. A tune that, in all smart- and deepness, displays a compelling take-no-prisoners-attitude. Then Aterral honcho Carlo takes over with the over-modestly titled "This Song Will Age Terribly" - a breeze-like sonic refreshment taking some unexpected turns and, contrary to what the title suggests, going for the long lasting impact. Then there is Belgian producer Bass Toast, handing in a percussively and rhythmically advanced, yet deeply soulful piece named "Tribute To Ljubljana". Spanish duo Dan Be & Techniscje Loef deliver classic Deephouse of the most captivating sort in "Missing Piece", leaving you clueless about what piece they are talking about, since it's just all there. And finally Italian producer Niccolò Turini is closing things off with "Frangia" a pad-kissed dream made of a funky bassline, playful leads and blissful field recordings.

The street was alive with hustle and bustle as people shouted from apartment windows down to friends below and music played loud from boomboxes on the corners. It was a hot day in the city, the type that might make you sweat. The rumble of the trains could be heard all day long, people being taken from place to place, wherever that might be. He sat there taking all this in, perched upon his park bench, smoking a cigarette, watching as the world went wearily by. This was his city, his funk. 

Black Loops appear on a new compilation for Hudd Traxx, a celebration of the fifteen years that the label has been in existence. It's an impressive feat, especially considering the consistency and dependability of the imprint which has released music by the likes of Dj Sneak, Iron Curtis, Nightmares On Wax, Chez Damier, Rick Wade and many more. 

This track is an ode to house in the deepest, truest of senses.

The quality of sampling in music, like DJing, is often decided by tasteful selection and arrangement rather than heavy processing and editing. This is something noticeable in some of the best modern dance music, and Parisian label, Sampling As An Art, is certainly close to warranting such description.The label, headed by S3A, is set to release a four-track record of – to use what’s no doubt become a trite joke – sample-heavy music deserving of praise for its genuine artistry. Each track of this EP is quite different to its company, and we reckon we’ve landed the best of the lot for our premiere: the A1 tune by Sweely, Dollar G.

Lively percussion persists with full musical force during the whole eight minutes of this jazzy, house number, introducing itself in tasteful layers throughout the opening part of the track until a bass and piano, with quintessential jazz timbre, slide in smoothly.

Almost four minutes in we realise where the song was headed all along: toward a soulful female vocal harmony that lifts the music up another level and keeps it there until the end.

A second track of this quality could justify a two-track EP. Luckily, the other three are almost on par, we think. Bogota’s Felipe Gordon adds some acid-jazz fusion, before a daft-punk-style Pnom Pen remix and a stripped back, sax-samples-and-all cut from G2S round off the record on the B side.
