APTS (pronounced “Apartments”) is a collaboration between Art Pleasley and Thomas Shaw. 

As Art Pleasley, Angus Fitz-Bugden makes angular emo funk while Thomas Shaw is where Mike Watson goes to craft cinematic laptop bangers. Having known each other for nearly a decade - and for as many years having pledged to make music together - the time was finally right. Starting out as one long-overdue track between two Lismore/Lennox Head producers, this fated musical and social experiment effortlessly grew into enough material to take to the stage. 

APTS fuses modern electronica and future-soul with vintage hip hop and pop; Brought to life as a two-man, live/sampled stage show which has to date opened for YEO, Outside The Academy (OTA) and fellow north-coasters Nocturnal Tapes.

Like A Pro is the tale of two lovers who have been thrown into a long distance situation, they have to combat isolation, regret and capricious technology with the optimism that things will be better when they reunite. 

Fluctuating dynamics and movements in the groove imitate the story throughout the song leading to a climactic reuniting of the couple embellished by layers of anthemic strings and legions of synthesizers.

The ode to technology’s fickle role in an intercontinental relationship cements the pair as a solid producing/songwriting duo with one foot planted in old school craft and the other in future-gazing experimentalism.

Hear, There! Is an experimental project to create electronic music strictly from field recordings and my own voice. 

Each track was made at a particular location from the objects and sounds that happened to be there at that time and place.

‘Pieces’ sees Nocturnal Tapes significantly progress by introducing Tech-house influences, drawing inspiration from Caribou, The Presets and LCD Soundsystem. Whilst the track shines a different light on the band’s creative depth, the pop sensibilities and smart approach to songwriting still remain intact.
