April Bourne 'Ox-Eye EP'

March 23 marks the release date of ’Ox-Eye EP’, April Bourne’s debut on Bound Centre. Inspired by the UK and its diverse sounds like Grime, UK Funky and Garage Dutch born April Bourne started producing music a few years back. Ox-Eye marks his debut EP on Bound Centre after his promising first steps into the public with his track Crying In The Club which was featured on a compilation by Austrian label Ashida Park. His sound is best categorised as friendly sounding melodic ambient with the use of gated synths and minimalistic percussion he calls pitter-patter beats. The concept of the EP is based on the daisy or ox-eye as it is also called. Where nature is often smothered by synthetics and the rise of human technology, the daisy merges and thrives in these surroundings. This interplay between the organic and the synthetic symbolises April Bourne’s search for balance in his sound.

Athens based artists Anastasios Tatsis and Spiros Alfa started their relationship as Ice_Eyes members some years ago. Together they produce leftfield electronic music forms. Both artists are constantly experimenting with modern club territories, techniques, and atmospheres. Their favorite palette of materials consists of advanced dynamic sound motifs, sub-zero pitched bass drops, and rhythmic alchemies.
Having released music on Seagrave [UK], Genot Centre [Czech], ANBA[Cairo], TAR [USA, Los Angeles], Ernest D. Tapes [France] and recently on Hypermedium [Athens] their material is sculpted and emerging from a vast community of innovative artists.

"I’ve been thinking about and listening to SOPHIE’s work since the news of her passing. I’ve been trying to listen to her whole production discography; and I’m struck by the sheer breadth of sounds and ideas that she created while she was with us. 

What her work shows me is that as an artist, musically you can do it all: she forces her listener to never categorise or place her within the limited confines of a single genre; her sounds manage to move through and with so many different kinds of people and musical spaces - she had this unique ability to facilitate world building with her audience during her performances and through everything that she did.

Shilla invited me to contribute to a mix for her series Struma+Iodine, and it feels right to select SOPHIE’s music for this. We should be listening to this together in a room somewhere to process this monumental loss - but instead, I’ve put together some of her tracks that mean the most to me and tried to express the vastness and complexity of her work, although this is just my interpretation.

What’s really helped these past few weeks is seeing the sheer multiplicity in the ways of understanding and celebrating her life and work; so I’ll link to those mixes here (all of which I would highly recommend):
