The collection kicks off with Atlas Boda's thumping bass rework that delivers an array of pounding kicks and raspy claps. Relentless pace and a deep bass line create dark undertones but maintain a dance floor mood that has become synonymous with Atlas Boda's work. The main breakdown evolves into a wonderfully eerie expanse that takes us down a proverbial black hole before launching into the main drop.

Jacob Millar's rework explores an experimental collection of percussive layers that are engaging and complicated but allow the core components of the original track to comfortably ride along. A host of carefully crafted effects and ambient sounds intertwine with varying swings in rhythm creating a dynamic sound that lives and breathes with every re-introduction of the core sub rhythm. Jacob Millar has developed a unique production style that is continuously evolving and this remix marks the beginning of his solo journey.

Sleepy Cat Remix

The EP closes out in appropriate fashion with Sleepy Cat's own revisit to his original. The song as a whole is dropped to a deeper level, with the vocals pitched down and synths carefully smoothed out at lower registers. All paths point down to cavernous hallways lined with reverberating sounds of a killer bass line that will ignite any dancefloor. Sleepy Cat's signature percussive beats slice their way through a popping kick that drives the track towards a host of eclectic environmental soundscapes gradually progressing towards the main drop.

Bursting onto the scene with an appetite for the psychedelic, Alien Speak is the stellar first release from Sylph, the musical alias of Emily Thaler. Based out of New York City, she has spent the last several years quietly expanding upon her production, composition, and engineering knowledge. The producer’s patience has paid off with a musical bounty worth it's weight in sub bass. Drawing from the font of psybient influence, each of the four tracks is a boisterous dance of pulsating frequencies. Glitchy harmonies and high-processed synthesis turn each moment into a downtempo tango between the visceral and the effervescent. With an obvious inclination towards arrangement and general musicality, the EP is a testament to an intrepid work ethic. For fans of pronounced sound design and glitched-out serenades, Alien Speak should feel right at home in your catalog.

Music from the Danish producer Jens Christiansen aka Rumpistol has never been conventional. It was his ability to create experimental yet accessible electronic music that first earned him notoriety over a decade ago. Now, a new five-track collection called In My Room finds the producer leaning ever further into that absence of orthodoxy. In My Room takes artistic risk and combines threads from many electronic styles. It showcases non-linear songwriting, bold textures, and uninhibited array of sonic material. Yet despite Rumpistol’s endless tinkering and flirtations with the edge, In My Room still offers a deeply comforting listening experience. 

Tempos and moods are fluid throughout this release, but the common denominator is a sense of wonder. The sort of wonder surrounding something ultimate and grand that we can’t quite grasp, yet we know is out there. The sort of wonder that surfaces when we’re lost in thought alone in our room. Rumpistol can fit so many distinct, disparate sounds into his music without creating a crowded mix. Each element has room to breathe. In My Room offers another great example of this dynamic. 

In the past several years, Jens has been working with his jazz and world fusion supergroup Kalaha, and maneuvering through the United States’ bass music circuit. The sounds of these two different worlds appear to have heavily influenced In My Room, and as such, it represents a new evolution of Rumpistol’s music.
