Part of our Forgotten Masters series, and in association with Docomomo, this talk addresses the life of architect Jean Tschumi. Together with academic and writer Jacques Gubler, architect Bernard Tschumi discusses the work of his father, the first president of the UIA and the founding head of Switzerland’s French-speaking School of Architecture at Lausanne.

Jean Tschumi: forgotten master of architecture

Tomas Koolhaas is a filmmaker in Los Angeles, whose most recent project, a documentary about his father Rem, recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival. REM follows its titular architect around the world, visiting his projects and investigating their human impact. Conscious of his special perspective on the film's subject, Tomas didn't want REM to be a teary biopic or heady architectural salvo, but something more impressionistic and accessible, appealing to emotions over intellectualism. We speak about managing family relationships in creative work, his influences as a filmmaker, and film's role in architectural media at large.

Named by some as one of the greatest omissions of design history, Aino Marsio-Aalto belongs to a line of women architects whose work has become overshadowed by that of their better-known male partners. Our panel discuss her often overlooked contribution to Nordic Modernist architecture.
