Without You

DJ Ink's Architecture recordings continues its charge through the depths of the Drum & Bass underground delivering four fresh tracks of contemporary 170 bpm futurism for the second installment of the "Street Glory" series.
Ahmad, Gremlinz and Mental Forces combine to conduct a lesson in break manipulation on "Shiva", switching key elements of recognized breaks in and out to form the main percussive bed over top of a vicious low slung half step.  Tribal sound effects and sparse tech-noire bass stabs complete the trance inducing voodoo magic being brewed.
"Infallible Drift" see's label boss DJ Ink returning to the Speed era , Bukem leaning template that originally ushered in his production career in the mid 90's.  Introspective ambient washes and melodies create a lush soundscape,  taking the listener on  the kind of blissed out early morning  journey reminiscent of a lost time in Drum & Bass history, when tunes like this used to play at massive outdoor raves as the first bits of sun rays battled with the night for supremacy.
Kobra steps up with "Turret", slowly building an infectious, melancholic riff from the far depths to the forefront of the track, twisting and morphing as it moves along, underpinned by pummeling kicks and a deep, churning bass line groove.
Loxy & Matt U, join forces on "Dictate" utilizing upbeat and often overlooked jazz breaks, layered with  Amazon bongos and a rugged chest out dub bass.  Unrecognizable voices, and Rufige blips and bleeps  maintain the ever present spirit of Hardcore, a common theme in both producers extensive  and respected discographies.

In this day and age vinyl releases are getting rare in drum & bass but still we at Demand cherish them. Requisites our brand new 6 part 33 rpm series is an ode to the vinyl culture. Every release symbolizes one particular requisite that you'd evidently need to rock the so called black gold. Here served by, what else could it be, a butler we start of with the headphones...

Musically that includes the ever magnificent Phil Tangent who contributes "Misgivings", a roller that effortlessly switches from euphoria to dark tones. The legend Big Bud in collaboration with Austria's finest RoyGreen & Protone and #Dual on "Gospodi". A smooth liquid outing that we just fell in love. The ever surprising EastColors with "Naked Skin" that brings in low slung tempo with the vocal wonder Tiiu and last but not least Demand's own nurtured talent Phase who rounds of the first part with "Abundance". As the name suggests it is absolutely rich in form of vibes!

Phil Tangent - Misgivings

DJ Ink's storied Architecture imprint steps back into the fray with a new addition to the family.  Toronto native Jesta, while seemingly a new name is no stranger to Drum & Bass with a production history dating back to the late 90's.  Reinvigorated in the studio as of late, Jesta hooked up with Australian head Suffer while both of them were living in Vancouver to craft four cuts of low slung, avant garde Junglism to take their place among Architecture's celebrated catalog.
"Foreign Substance" sets the mood with eerie keys and skittering breaks, setting up a monstrous  dancehall bass line that takes over while expertly layered break combinations give the track a pulsing energy without losing any of its spacious foot print.
Things take a more menacing turn on "Houston" as heartbeat kicks, off kilter metallic hits and familiar break beat cuts slice in and out underpinned by a lurking bass line undulating up and down below the surface.  Hair raising atmospherics and night time nature sounds preside over top upping the overall darkness even further.
"Grevious" aims straight for the jugular with wood block snares and stepping kicks holding up a ruthless Reece riff that buries itself into your brain.  Jesta &Suffer morph the riff with precision as the track progresses echoing the sonic lineage of the Bluenote's dance floor heritage.
Rounding off the package, title track "Jigsaw" continues the tribal Jungle assault with a chest thumping Bass line, penetrating top riff and classic break combos while a sinister analogue melody floats in and out over top.  
With this project Jesta & Suffer both firmly establish themselves as artists to keep a keen eye on from the long standing Drum & Bass hot beds of Toronto and Australia.

INK : The story so far......

An architect first visualizes then realises, making something out of nothing, making sure that not only the object itself shines but also the space around it. The sound is moulding, shaping and morphing at the hands of Dj Ink... 

The year is 1990 and a young Dj Ink has solidified his love for the culture known as hip hop- as the years move on so does UK street music, there are new genres forming and Ink begins to hear what is familiar to him, but there is a new twist-It is the UK passing by the USA, with a huge dose of African and Jamaican influence, This is music to a budding Dj Ink's ears, he naturally becomes involved and it doesn’t take too long before he begins to make his mark. 

First begins the Pirate radio circuit. Working hard at his craft and allowing the followers to get familiar with the roll, steadily bookings began to build up and soon it would be time for Ink to become associated with three names that changed the landscape of British electronic music-Basement Records, and slightly later Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware. Ink would go onto form his own imprint- Architecture Recordings, releasing anthems from himself and various crew members, bringing through new talent and the cream of the heavy hitters within drum n bass. If you're familiar with drum n bass/jungle you’ll know instantly the weight these labels carry, and if you're not by just scratching the surface you’ll become aware of the impact they have had. Renegade Hardware & Metalheadz are two commitments Dj Ink has upheld to this day, through thick and thin, engraved in the wall of time.

Essential work includes 'The 50th (Blueprint)' (1st Drum and Bass/Jungle tune selected live by a dj (LTJ Bukem) on BBC Radio 1 essential DnB show ever!) and "Altitude" on Basement Records, ‘Feel da heat’ taken from the LP ‘Can u draw sound?’ on Architecture Recordings, ‘Kaos Theory EP’ on Renegade Hardware, ‘Shine’ on Metalheadz, and the now infamous posse cut ‘Instinct’ also on Architecture, this is just a small fraction by Ink that has made waves. 

The now famous "Horsemen" project was a concept headed up by Ink, Loxy, Dylan & Keaton. Originally formed due to the affinities amongst the original four, the crew went onto bring together producers from all over the globe under the "Horsemen" banner- beat makers who have been inspired by the foundations laid down by The Four Horsemen went on to receive acclaim from critics and music buyers alike.

Ink has a number of long players under his belt, to select a few In chronological order these are - Incision and Can You Draw Sound for Architecture Recordings, Hard Soul w/ Perpetuum for Colours Audio and: The Last Scroll for Renegade Hardware. In more recent events we have "The Tree & The Wind" by INK & SIN also on Architecture Recordings.  With these credits to his name it is fair to say INK continues to make his mark on DnB.
