A track composed for Open Spaces: A micro-festival of Storytelling & Sound in Berlin. A place for workshop attendees to dwell and reflect upon their experience. Questions were spread around the room with place to note down reflections. The track collages field recordings across multiple cities and neighbourhoods, and features the young voices of Community Sound Lab participants while on a field recording endeavour

Open Spaces

The compilation is a collection of Ambisonic compositions created during a two-week residency at Ambisonics summer school 2023. Soundworks are the recordings of live performances and fixed media pieces presented at MELUSINES event on the 32-channel OTTOsonics sound system in the National House in Ústí nad Labem.


The compositions available on the streaming platforms are binaural mixdown of Ambisonics recordings. phonon~ z.s. would like to thank the Cultural Center of Ústí nad Labem, Löblhof & Artgrund and Faculty of Art and Design JEPU for their support and cooperation in realisation of the project. Ambisonics summer school 2023 was financially supported by the Statutory City of Ústí nad Labem, Ministry of Culture Czech republic and Česko-německý fond budoucnosti/ Deutsch-Tschechischer Zukunftsfonds.

What Brian Eno wrote about glitches and imperfections is a partial view: he seems to believe that there is human expression trying to break free from the confines of technology. But if we follow Fisher we can also see that the limits of a medium are turned into the ghost of nostalgia for form that reflects the absence of present. Nostalgia is an escape from horror. Nostalgia keeps the horror in the corner of the ear. Nostalgia is a slow poison.
