The thing about France Jobin's music that never fails to impress is that it works on so many levels. Listen to it at the threshold of perception (the way it is mastered) or at very high volume, on headphones or through loudspeakers, and you will hear new sonic relationships, new structures, a new logic every time. Things simultaneously are and aren't as they seem; sounds you hear are and aren't really there.

Montréal sound/installation artist France Jobin has come a long way since her days as a blues keyboardist in the 1980s. In 1999, after a hiatus that lasted a decade, during which she raised two sons, she turned to experimental electronic music of the very quiet, rumbling, abstracted kind, and started performing and releasing music under the moniker i8u. Slowly but with great assurance, she built a much-lauded career and kept on refining her art, ever digging deeper into the core of sound. When the revered LINE label offered her an album (Valence) in 2012, she abandoned her alias and started using her own name.

In her own words:

«The Illusion of Infinitesimal represents another chance to refine the unique essence of each sound and composition, in an effort to better communicate intent without influencing its unfolding, a delicate balance between perfection and detachment.

A parallel could be drawn from particles of matter, which, "as far as we know, are infinitesimal points of zero size, yet they have measurable amounts of angular momentum. Does the concept of rotation even make sense for a featureless speck? Angular momentum seems to be a more foundational concept than rotation itself. The angular momentum, or spin, of a single particle is restricted in strange ways. It can have only certain values, and not all values are allowed for all particles." (1)

This is my first Brainwave entertainment beat i made. I Hope you like it as much as i do. Pleas let me know what you think! I suggest you listen to it with eyes closed and for a better effect pls use headphones.

This session uses a technique called Dissociation which is particularly useful for people who are restless and have trouble relaxing.

Step 1: Relax

Relax your mind and body. You may choose to meditate or perform a series of very deep breaths. In and out, always very slowly. Make sure you inhale deeply and that your breaths are not shallow. If you know a good body relaxation meditation, use it. If not, you can tense your muscles and release them one at a time. Work from your toes to the top of your head.

Step 2: Get Into A Hypnotic State

After you feel fully relaxed, you need to enter a hypnotic state where your mind is at the edge of sleep and no further. Now lie down and focus on an object. Stare at it until you can visualize it perfectly even with your eyes closed.

Step 3: Get Into A Deeper State Of Relaxation

Now it’s time to enter a deeper state of relaxation. Your eyes are still closed and you are still visualizing your chosen object. But now you look around you with your eyes closed. Gaze into the darkness. After a while you may see light patterns dance across your eyes. Just ignore them and they will go away. Once they disappear you’ve entered a deeper state of relaxation. You will be so relaxed that you are no longer aware of your physical body. Once you reach this level, it’s time for step 4.
Step 4: Enter A State Of Vibration

This is the most vital step and it’s when you enter into a state of vibration. This state may take longer if you are new to this. When you do begin to feel the vibrations, your astral body has begun to leave your physical body. Just acknowledge this and feel the vibrations.

Step 5: Control The Vibrations

Focus on the vibrations as they travel throughout your body. Using your willpower, control them with your mind. As you feel them, try to control the frequency of the waves as well as stopping and starting them. Once you master changing the frequency and you are sure that you can induce them when needed, you’re ready for step 6.

Step 6: Imagine The Rope

Here is where you will exert your control and willpower. Imagining that there is a long rope hanging right above you. Without opening your eyes or moving your physical body, visualize yourself reaching up towards the rope. Once you grab a hold of the rope, bring your hand back into your physical body, slow down the vibrations, and end the session.

After you become fully alert and awakened, move on to step 7.

Step 7: Rinse And Repeat - Now Let’s Do The Whole Body

Now that you’ve done a partial separation you’re ready to try the whole body. Repeat the previous 6 steps but this time, don’t stop at just one hand. Imagine your other hand coming out of your physical body and reaching for the rope. Slowly place hand over hand on the rope as if you were pulling yourself up.

You may feel a little dizzy at this point and the vibrations will buzz at a higher frequency. Often people here feel paralyzed or shrink back into their physical bodies. But concentrate on climbing the rope. Don’t stop until you feel your entire self separating from your body. Finally you’re free! You will find yourself hovering over your body at this point.

But the chance to work with Smile clothing (which donates a shirt to someone in need with every purchase) led these two to record in Studios, countryside barns, shipping containers and airport lounges to bring smiles to kids and listeners alike. 

The meshing of soundscape electro beat maker (Alabaster) and vocal illustrator (Christian Patey) is sure to drum up more excitement over the coming months considering the over 10,000 listener hype surrounding the ‘mystery artist’ first single release. It should also come to no surprise that Smile was mixed and produced by part of Simian Mobile Disco. His influences helped ChristianXAlabaster mould this 3-minute daydream into the track garnering a landslide of “Beautiful & Breathtaking” comments accompanying the song. 

This is the only first taste of this accomplished duo and ChristianXAlabaster are set to whisk us away on another relaxing journey soon, but until then you’re sure to be smiling in anticipation.

Refraction and Reflection has taken field recordings and synthesizer sounds and processed them in various ways to alter and reconstruct the original. Some of the sounds present are complexly processed recordings, retaining none of their original qualities, others are delicate noise, and then there are those which recreate the sounds of nature, such as that of treading on snow or tree branches, or the call of a bird. There are truly a great variety of sounds utilized. In this album, I tried to bring into harmony both the tactile and the deeply spiritual aspects of sound.
