Alex Albrecht ( @melquiadesmusic ) is a local Naarm/ Melbourne based DJ/producer & label boss, running the charming, ethereal local imprint Analogue Attic ( @analogueattic ) alongside @sean_labrooy, which showcases the gentle side of music down under. 

Between running his label, dj'ing, and solo releases under "Alex Albrecht presents Melquiades", Alex is also known for his productions alongside his co-label head, Sean La Brooy, under Albrecht La'brooy ( @albrecht-labrooy ). The musical duo have an impressive slew of releases which combine elements of electronic and classical/ jazz influenced music, with a beautiful result. The two have also run various events in Melbourne across the last decade.

About my productions: I try to make the intention around my productions natural, almost sub-conscious - intention when producing music can get you into some tricky spots, where you aren’t really feeling anything but rather just forcing it. I was chatting to a friend the other day and he was showing me some of his music, it was so pure, authentic, i could tell it was a labour of love and i thought that’s when you make the best stuff, when you pour it all out, it doesn’t have to be hard, but it does have to be real.

About the mix: Dance floor direct stuff has an immediacy to it, when you are crafting something to be played at home, the reasoning changes, as if you almost want to be immersed in its temporality. For me these records recall a lot of the initial moments of connecting with something which validates an experience. 

Headspace when i made the mix: I’m not a fantastic sleeper, i’ve always had issues with that. I wouldn’t say i’m terrible, i mean i’ve survived but it does agitate me. If i can’t sleep, i’ll usually head to my studio to make or mix music. It’s always weird & somnambulistic but i feel at peace there and i’m never trying to make too much noise. In this case, i felt recreating some dream-state, slipping between moods and riding the very soft ebbs and flows of energy i get from mild insomnia.

FHUO # 84 // Danimoto

Eastern Distributor, also known as Jörmungandr, is a true all-rounder. He is first and foremost a producer, he DJ´s, he co-heads a record label (Eko-System) and runs events. His sound is quite unique as it ranges from ambient to percussive-centric techno, with everything in between. But most importantly - it sounds ALIEN!

After a quick meet on the d-floor at Inner Varnika, we had the pleasure of getting to know him a little better during this interview. He knows his shit when it comes to production. We discussed music production, awkward fan encounters, the origin of his aliases and much more. The mix includes a bunch of his own unreleased originals - enjoy!

Steffan Todorović, one half of Abdul Raeva, is one of the most switched-on individuals we have ever spoken with. Based in Estonia, he runs multiple successful record labels such as Gestalt records, Coymix and Terrazo. He produces, he DJs, he plays shows all over Europe and somehow still has time to be a full-time account manager and run a soccer team. To say we are in awe would be an understatement. Co-head of the sonic hypnotic label ‘companion’ and radio show host of Passing Notes on PBS. A respected name in Naarm's growing underground electronic scene, you might have seen her grace the decks atsome of our favorite festivals, such as Inner Varnika, Strawberry Fields and Golden Plains.

Pjenné, or known by her real name as Penny - does a lot more than just digging (and that already takes up a heap of her time), but she is also in academia with a Phd. As usual we chat beyond music and understand how she balances it all whilst giving her all.

After seven incredible mixes, we conclude the first season of Truancy Sessions with a DJ who perfectly embodies the ethos we envisioned when starting this series. Our goal was to build community and provide a platform for exceptional DJs we’ve met during our travels and connected with online as global friends. Born and raised in Cairo and based in New York for the past decade, Sabrout has been quietly emerging as a rising star with his distinctive approach to musical eclecticism. A former member of the music platform Delayed, Sabrout crafts sets that are both deeply personal and versatile, showcasing his extensive knowledge of dance music. His mixes for Palestine Forever—a collective dedicated to supporting humanitarian aid and raising awareness for Palestine—and for the NYC-based Salsabil, of which he is one third, exemplify his ability to seamlessly blend acid house, techno, breakbeat, ambient, R&B, and hip hop, all infused with genuine emotion. Sabrout describes his Truancy Sessions mix as a product of a breakthrough approach, focusing on intuition rather than overthinking. The result is a beautifully curated journey of rolling grooves, with a standout moment at 20 minutes when Dreamrdreamr’s "Zone 4 Booty Call" elevates the mix to new heights.
