Bio:
Mattia Borriello better known as M.I.T.A. is one of the upcoming talent in the Italian techno scene. He started his Dj career when he was just 14 amazed by the performance of djs like Chris Liebing, Speedy J, Rino Cerrone, Markantonio. He started producing in 2009 with the popular DAW Reason. We can say that M.I.T.A. tracks are groovy and powerful, with driving hats and live recorded shakers, deep fx and huge kicks. He had big influences by Audio Injection, Chris Liebing, Joseph Capriati and all the Neapolitan djs of the techno scene. However this young boy is tryin' to build up his own style to fight the big competition in the techno scene.

Pete Griffiths Feat Cevin Fisher - 'Chicago' will be out on Wednesday

Toolroom’s very own Pete Griffiths teams up with house music heavyweight, Cevin Fisher to bring you ‘Chicago’; a shining tribute to the spiritual birth place of house.

Whilst tirelessly pushing the label forward, Pete Griffiths has enjoyed his own success with previous releases like ‘Filtered’, ‘No Soul’, and his recent remix of Doorly’s ‘Rush’, alongside touring the globe representing Toolroom. On this latest offering Pete teams up with US legend Cevin Fisher who is no stranger to success with both a tour schedule and list of chart successes that go way back when. Productions like ‘You Got Me Burning Up’ and ‘The Freaks Come Out’ were international hits tackling both the US billboard and UK national charts and inspiring a whole generation of house followers.

Together on ‘Chicago’, Pete Griffiths and Cevin Fisher have captured the spirit of a time when legends like Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan were spearheading the transformation clubs witnessed from disco into the birth of house music, as the lyrics say, ‘They gave us something to move to; they gave us something to groove to’.
On remix duties one of the hottest new acts on the underground scene Weiss has created a jackin’ tribute laden with old school drums and rumbling bass, London’s man of the moment Vanilla Ace turns in a slick and uber cool deeper take and Italy’s finest Federico Scavo delivers what he does best, a pumping refit ready for the dance floor.

Every other Thursday, The Bunker founder Bryan Kasenic invites some of the finest names in zoned-in, psychedelic techno into our NYC studio to discuss their craft and play some music – be it a mix of club-ready tracks, a selection of favorite obscurities or a live set teased out on synths and drum machines.

During a recent broadcast timed a few days before the techno institution celebrated its 14th anniversary with a blowout in Brooklyn, party headliners Romans came through with a mountain of gear and carte blanche to go deep. Comprised of Vienna-based acid evangelist Tin Man and Brooklyn techno upstart Gunnar Haslam, the duo recently released their first album, 'Valere Aude,' through The Bunker New York, and their live sets have become a staple of Bunker events worldwide.

In the studio that afternoon, it was easy to see why. Simply put, they blew the roof off the place. We didn’t want to let this set drift into the ether, so here it is in full: just under an hour of expertly twisted techno from Romans.

We touched in with Gunnar Haslam after the show to hear more about how Romans approaches a set.

RBMA: What sort of gear are you guys using in your live sets?

Johannes brings a TB-303, a TT-303, a TR-8 and some Yamaha effects units, while I (Gunnar) bring my portable Eurorack system, an MFB Tanzbaer and (often) a TR-606. For this RBMA show I brought a TB-03 as well. We typically ask the venue to provide a 16-channel mixer, SH-101 and TR-808 for us.

RBMA: How does your live set change from show to show? How has it developed over time?

Each show is completely improvised, so we are able to change the whole thing depending on the situation. Aside from the patterns stored in memory on the 303, sequences never really reappear, and we can take the set wherever we want to. We tried to plan things out for our first couple live sets together and that never worked, hence the live set's current unstructured form.

RBMA: Tell us about the set you played for The Bunker on RBMA Radio. Was it fairly typical for a Romans set? Was there anything that set it apart?

It was a pretty solid representation of a typical Romans set, though not being in a club let us stretch out and take things in a couple different directions. It does feature a cameo from Mike Servito on the contact microphone for that added special flavor.

AREA 303 is  a brand with the aim to showcase underground techno in the right environment. First conceived as a live PA act by Larry Kleinke and Wilf Libgott, it now consists of a record label, events, artists/bookings and more.

The events under the name ‘WAREHOUSE WEEKENDER’ bring back the spirit from the early days of house and techno. The opposite of ‘Disney’ like festivals, overly produced and overly commercial, Area 303 brings stripped down events with powerful, in-your-face sound, darkness and just enough lighting to make a room explode. The later into the night the better. The monotone techno vibes have a special quality and we strive to bring the best talent available, whether local or from other places.

The favorite locations for Area 303 consist of older buildings, preferably warehouses. Locations with attitude and grit. We strive to explore new locations when we can. AREA 303 Live, the project by Larry Kleinke and Wilf Libgott takes Live PA techno to the next level. They stay true to their roots; the oldschool sound! As they utilize an array of analog synths, drum machines, mixers, stomp boxes and the latest sampling groove machines, they assure their audience a raw mix of beats, effects and noise dedicated to dancefloor mayhem.
At AREA 303 shows, Machinedrums, Roland TR drum machines, TB 303 clones, Electribes and more are hooked up together to bring an intriguing sound. Since they have control over every single note played, they have the ability to directly interact with their crowd and tweak to perfection.

Kleinke’s sound is heavily influenced by the old school Midwest Acid sound of DJ ESP Woody McBride and DJ Hyperactive. As well as labels like Communique’, Drop Bass Network, Direct Drive, Industrial Strength, Harthouse, Contact, TRAX, etc… Also the early Minimal stylings of dbx, Todd Sines and Hyperactive.

As founder of www.hammarica.com he has interviewed all the greats from the world of techno, including Detroit originator Juan Atkins, early house adopters Fierce Ruling Diva and founder of legendary label R&S records Renaat Vandepapeliere among many others. He joined Kleinke in AREA 303 to form a live act with the music he loves most!

All artwork for the label is done by Larry Kleinke. Besides music, Kleinke has a strong interest in photography. His pictures are often dark and gritty and form the perfect addition to the feel of the Area 303 label. Rusty trains, dark gear, a night shot of the city and more grace the covers of the label.
