Lena: When we first began thinking of the concept of Zephyr Sanctum and the Zephyrite people, our narrative designer Angel McCoy came up with lyrics for a song that would tell the story of these new people. She gave the lyrics to Maclaine Diemer, who wrote a simple yet memorable melody that would define the rest of the music surrounding the Bazaar release.

I then took that melody and constructed the orchestral realization of these new people. It took the form of an aural journey up the Labyrinthine Cliffs, from the docks and dark mercantile streets, up into the first glimpse of the Zephyr Sanctum in all her majesty. From there, it was a run up and up, crisscrossing suspended bridges in a rush to see this ship and its people.

Lena Chappelle: Knowing that the toymaker Tixx is a fairly eccentric asura, I approached writing this piece by taking several elements from the asura theme & paired them with an unpredictable melody that can’t quite decide where it wants to go. The final section includes elements from the Bell Choir piece Beyond Fields of Snow.

Maclaine: A new jumping puzzle was added for the Halloween update. We got a request for a piece of music that would increase in tempo and tension as it goes on. You have around 90 seconds to complete the puzzle, and it's unbelievably difficult. I gave up after about a dozen tries.

The music is based on the same rhythm and melody as the Halloween Theme. I took the first few notes of the melody and gave it to some low brass, trombones and French horns. Rather than play the entire melody, the basic motif rises chromatically, mimicking your ascent of the clock tower. I also got to throw in some fun string effects, as well as a couple of nods to the clock tower in the percussion. Overall, it's much more ominous than its upbeat cousin, and it was a lot of fun to work on.

Maclaine: This is my first major musical contribution to Guild Wars 2. I felt like we needed a suitably Elfman-esque piece of music to go along with the Burton-esque vibe of the Halloween content.

The idea here is that the violin playing the main melody represents the Mad King (shades of Nero). The clarinet and oboe that also play the melody represent his various wives and subjects who get caught up in his madness.

If you're playing Guild Wars 2 during the week leading up to Halloween, keep your eyes peeled for a character called the Fake Mad King, who puts on a little show set to this music at various places in the world.
