Originally from Athens, Subheim is a Berlin-based producer who finds his current home on the amazing Denovali Records. Having released three LP's over the last decade, his sound consistently pushes the boundaries of dark tribalism. We couldn't be happier to have him select his favorite titles from the Quiet Calm Records store as well as some fantastic unreleased forthcoming pieces for our first Quiet Cast. A curated series where we commission artists to make an hour long mix of whatever inspires them to experiment, produce, play out and what they listen to.


"This particular mix blends together many of the influences that follow me around in my every day work. Often the biggest inspiration lies in very basic harmonic structures or textures that’s why i combined some of my favourite ambient pieces with a number of, partially binaural, field recordings i took in the black forest last year. Ben Lukas Boysen has made a career out of transforming unusual sounds into compelling music. His first electronic compositions at 18 were experiments with samplers and tape loops leading to an album in 2003 and the subsequent foundation of his own Berlin studio. Since, he has produced multiple albums (many under the alias HECQ), and led numerous workshops on composition and sound aesthetics, as well as creating custom sound design for films, commercials, video games and installations. Boysen’s first film score for „Restive" premiered in 2011, followed by his debut album under his own name in 2013, and the award-winning score for the Sony Playstation game, Everything, in 2016 as well as Amazon series „BEAT“ in 2018 and the score for the  film adaptation of best seller „The Collini Case“ in 2019.

For February's entry to the EXE Mix Series we proudly present Berlin-based producer of ambient and downtempo music: Subheim 

Subheim is no stranger to EXE having had his work often played in our Transmission episodes. His work explores the more sombre and sublime edges of electronic music often crossing over into dark-ambient and soundscape but always retaining some sort of pulsing groove in his compositions. 

His latest album 'ΠΟΛΙΣ' (out now on Denovali Records)is another masterful entry to his discography with heart-breaking melodies and an arresting production quality that feel almost tactile at times.  

In this mix we're treated to a cross-section of his work and tracks that have inspired his output.
