After the events of Sonic Mania, Tails retrieves the Phantom Ruby. He brings it back to his base and tampers around with it for research. The Phantom Ruby becomes too unstable for the testing because of its previous misuse by Dr.Robotnick causing it to rip a hole in space and time. This causes Sonic and friends to be sent to an alternate universe where they also gain alternate appearances. Sonic the Hedgehog is now Turbo the Bobcat. In order for them to go back to their original dimension with their original identities, Turbo (Sonic) and friends must venture to find the phantom ruby.
