Threads Radio - July 2021 Part 1

Well it's not all from London I know, but like many a scene, London has often been a processing point for what's being generated elsewhere. In this case, very much courtesy of Frankfurt, Detroit, Rotterdam, New York and of course the UK itself. This is a fairly close recreation of the regular sets I played at VFM, Dead By Dawn, Eurobeat 2000, Institute Of Goa, Helter Skelter and various squat parties (Spiral Tribe, Bedlam) in and around London. Hard banging techno leading up to some of the decent first instances of gabba.  It's at a point where things were quickly splintering off from the highly successful UK Rave Hardcore sound of 92 and reconnecting with a harder updated version of what had previously been coming out of Detroit, Brooklyn, Belgium and Holland around 89/90/91. Looking back, though it seemed such a very separate sound from breakbeat hardcore, with the distance of time they were both very much shades of the same rave. Ah the memories….

Warlock - The Hard Sound Of London 1992-1994

When Andrea Parker steps up to the plate you know there is going to be no compromise. As boss of Touchin’ Bass and aperture her vision of electro and electronic music comes together in one unique aesthetic. A landscape where Stockhausen, Drexciya, Coil, Daphne Oram and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Schooly D, Aphex Twin, Delia Derbyshire, Autechre, Adidas and Booty Bass collide. Her mix in the EPM Podcast series slices open the underbelly of contemporary avant-garde electronic production and lays its festering carcass in the middle of the dancefloor. From the aforementioned Drexciya to North Manc Beds, Russell Haswell and Regis to Christian Vogel, Einoma to Monolake and Surgeon to Coil, Parker’s initial love of film and cinematic soundscapes connects the flow of her music as much as any beat or break. Perhaps the New York Metro summed up her style best: "Andrea Parker...she may be a lady but she ain't dainty - picking hard, solid bass-heavy beats to slam you with.  She doesn't traffic in the happy-as-a-robot variety of electro, some of her choices are darker than what most people have come to associate with electro, and sometimes it literally feels like she's taking you for a ride down the street like a Mafioso, holding your head out of the side of a car just inches away from the pavement! She will certainly sort the men out from the boys." And with the new EPM podcast mix, Miss Parker certainly does that.

He already has some releases on Abseits Records  and some on @crobotmuzik "Dalekovod 7" alongside artits like Errorbeauty, DVS NME, ADJ and many more... Drexciya-Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller III

Shaun Spencer aka @Acell started Djing in 1991. Heavily influenced by the Detroit Techno and British Techno music at the time he got his first gig playing at The Wax Club for Heart and Soul in  1992, where he became a regular Dj and going on to play in clubs such as The Dungeons , Sides in Dublin , SW1, Lost with Plaid and support Dj on  an Ireland tour  for them and many underground indoor and out door events . In 2011 Andy Jaggers  and Shaun Spencer founded The Dodo Club an Electro/Electronica Night. 
After a long absence of releases since writing under the alias of + One (Defocus Records)The Bare Necessities,Acell has recently released Pitch Haze on Earthlings 2 and is in the process of releasing material written by himself and his late music partner Tim Benson from 2007 -2016 and is working on an EP at present.

Belgian DJ and producer, Krasius has always been an admirer of all things electronic. He started his late night adventures in the middle of the effusive 90's always trying to deepen his musical knowledge. Known for his braindance sets and ‘Bubbles’ series, he also likes to dig into ambient soundcapes, breakcore, apocalyptic industrial tones, electro, acid basslines, and particularly to switch from one genre to another. 
After a long pause behind desks, he recently played for the first Analogical Force showcase in Belgium, and at the famous C12 club B2B with Nidrev alongside Aleksi Perälä and Luke Vibert. 
For this podcast, he wanted to propose something different. Expect an electrifying sonic arsenal with mercurial rhythms, distorted techno, and abyssal electro!

Bio:

SDX aka BeNi is Born and raised in Wolfsburg, Germany. He’s been a DJ for more than 2 decades, originally coming from hip-hop until he found his love for electronic music but still loves hip-hop too. After his first gig at the old Tresor Club in 1999, he moved from Wolfsburg to Berlin and had Regular gigs at the old and new Tresor Club, the legendary Elektronik Ballroom events at SO36 and the Killekill events at the Berghain Kantine and later at Suicide Circus. 

After his first Release as BeNi on Null Records in 2005, he started to operate on an international platform and toured across Europe and North America. In 2014, BeNi decided to start a new Project and called himself SDX since.

Future Sound of Breakbeat Mix

Cette semaine, c'est la Parisienne @Substencia qui rejoint la liste des invités des Standalone Series. DJ et productrice dont le son se situe surtout dans l'univers techno dark et industrielle, elle s'est pliée pour nous à un exercice de style, fouillant dans ses influences musicales de ces 20 dernières années. 

Il en sort un set tantôt ambient-indus, rythmique noise, tantôt broken-beat/idm, en passant bien évidemment par des classiques techno et pure industrielle.
Pour créer cette ambiance parfois cosmique et métallique, elle nous dit avoir "tenté d'harmoniser au mieux l’ensemble en choisissant des morceaux à la rythmique particulièrement dense et sophistiquée, tout en prenant soin de faire ressortir l’émotion des morceaux plus electronica comme ceux de Gescom, ou encore cette balade improbable et méconnue de Surgeon."
