Bluebrain is the Washington, DC duo consisting of brothers Hays and Ryan Holladay. As Bluebrain, these brothers have brought an unrivaled energy and innovation to site-specific sound experiments, interactive concerts, and, recently, documentary film scoring. The band also opened for the newly reunited Dismemberment Plan in January 2011.

Bluebrain is set to release a limited edition, special Record Store Day 7" on Sockets Records. The single, entitled "The Pull / The Push", features lush electronic production with some of the danciest beats from the brothers to date. Also, one very special aspect of the 7" is how the two tracks can be combined. Each side of the 7" can be considered a stand alone track or Side A and Side B can be played simulataneously to form one song.

Dear Listener,

This is a very special mix. This mix is all about warming up a club. This mix is about how i started as a dj.
When i started to dj in public, i only did it for one reason, i missed good warm-up djs in Berlin. Luckily that changed over the past 15 years, but back in the days most djs opened the club with prime time uptempo house music. it always felt weird to me coming early to a club, still empty, but the dj already played tracks, i would expect during the peaktime.
My vision was always to start the night very slow, mellow and warm to built up an atmosphere. People should feel welcome by that kinda music, if the club is still empty/beginning to fill up. You go to the bar, have a drink, talking to some friends, checking out other guests and slowly getting into the groove. At some point you realize the club is getting buzy and there are people on the dancefloor and you start to dance while the dj is still playing it slow...
thats my vision and thats how I started 14 years ago.
So here is a brandnew mix only dedicated to the slow start into the night!
And by the way, the bar stuff will love you even more, if you start it slow and keep the volume on a decent level as long as the club is still filling up!

Rastlosigkeit, Ruhelosigkeit, Unruhe, Spannung, Ungeduld, Anspannung, Unrast, Erregtheit, Erregung, Hochspannung, Zappeligkeit, Überspannung, Hektik. Durchatmen, Weitermachen.

Das alles sind Begriffe die das tagtägliche Leben in unserer westlich-industrielen Gesellschaft prägen. Jeder kennt, aber mag es nicht. Egal wie wir uns entscheiden, die Zeit schreitet unhaltsam weiter und die To-Do Liste wird immer länger. Alles verändert sich um einen herum. Der Wandel, die Beschleunigung, die Informationsflut nimmt immer weiter zu und breitet sich unhaltsam über alle Ebenen der menschlichen Existenz aus. Und wir sind ein Teil davon. Jeder von uns. 

Schreitet die Zeit heute wirklich schneller voran? Schaue ich auf die Uhr und verfolge den Zeiger, komme ich zu dem Entschluss, dass die Zeit immer noch gleich schnell ist. Komisch. Denn mir kommt es eigentlich so vor, als ob sie immer schneller werden würde.

Um dem Ganzen entfliehen zu können, habe ich das musikalische Experiment gewagt ein spezielles Mixtape zu gestalten, welches zur Entschleunigung beitragen soll. Passenderweise verbinde ich mit Langsamkeit immer Gemütlichkeit. Das animalische Sinnbild ist für mich ganz klar die Katze, welche sich nahezu unmerksam auf ihren Pfoten fortbewegen kann, als hätte sie die Fähigkeit, die Zeit verlangsamen zu können. 
Im Grunde würde ich dies auch gerne können. Vielleicht ist das auch eine reine Einstellungssache. So oder so eine große Lebensaufgabe. Denn langsamer wird es bestimmt nicht mehr.

Ich hoffe es gefällt euch meine Arbeit. An dieser Stelle bedanke ich mich schonmal vorab für das liebe Feedback, sowie die Inspiration durch euch (ihr wisst schon wer gemeint ist ;) ) Ihr seid die Besten.

MUSIC IS MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER 5-LETTER WORD

Musik ist mehr als nur 5 einzelne Buchstaben, ein Wort, ein Begriff, eine Ansammlung von Tonspuren, ein Track oder Set…
Musik bedeutet Leidenschaft. Leidenschaft in der Erschaffung etwas Besonderen, welches Sender und Empfänger, dich und mich berührt.
Das Verhältnis zwischen Publikum/Zuhörer und DJ lässt sich meiner Meinung nach her, mit der Metapher einer Liebesbeziehung vergleichen. Denn Liebe und Hörgenuss funktionieren immer analog zueinander. Das Eine funktioniert nicht ohne das Andere.
 Es geht um Verführung, aber auch darum, wie man für den Partner noch nach langer Zeit attraktiv bleibt. Was zwischen zwei Partnern über längere Zeit dominiert, spielt sich auf einer Party oder einem Mixtape innerhalb einer begrenzten Zeit ab. Hierbei verfolge ich stets das Ziel – egal ob in einem Club oder Mixtape, denn beides sind widersprüchliche Orte an für sich – eine verbindliche Beziehung mit dem Zuhörer aufzubauen. 

Diesbezüglich habe ich mich dieses Mal für einen sehr klangvollen, sphärischen und emotional geladenen Deep-House-Sound entschieden, der mich persönlich sehr berührt.

Ich hoffe es gefällt euch und ich kann euch dabei helfen, 68 Minuten lang die Welt um einen herum auszublenden.
