So happy to have finally, officially, been invited to play at @kater_blau last weekend... and for four hours! How exciting. Super grateful for the opportunity. Since I played on the Kuckuck floor I got to dive into my rather faster, housy vibes, dropping some fun edits and dancing to bass-heavy beats.

Last year was the first time I DJ’ed at Garbicz. I instantly fell in love with the place, the people, the forest, the magnificent vibe. What a festival! You can imagine how thrilled I was to play there again this year – on my favorite floor of the festival, with a beautiful time slot.  

On Saturday morning at 8AM, I opened Buk Corner’s infamous cocktail bar. You could see the sun rise over the lake. Soon enough, people came pouring in from all corners of the festival. It was heartwarming to see many of my Dutch and German friends supporting me from the start. Some had partied all night, others had set their alarm clock to hear my set. Ain’t that dedication? 

As a DJ, I like to take people through different sounds and styles. Thanks to the open-mindedness and party-mindedness of Garbicz’s seasoned ravers, I was able to take the dance floor along on this journey. I hope the vibe of this most magical morning is captured in the recording. Enjoy.

I am super happy the recording was not deleted after an unexpected shutdown of the recorder. I have put it back ON and it was just one track missing. I repaired it. Fuck yes, it´s not gone;) I had already let go of it but HERE WE GO !!! Enjoy the Journey and see you next year!

🗯🗯 Wie hat Corona dein Künstlerleben verändert? 🗯🗯

Die Veränderungen haben bei mir ziemlich schlagartig und sogar während des Auflegens eingesetzt. Eine halbe Stunde nachdem ich meinen Gig auf dem Tribal Gathering Festival in Panama angefangen hatte, kam jemand zu mir auf die Bühne und bat mich aufzuhören, da plötzlich das Militär vor den Toren stand und mit einem Lockdown drohte. Das Festival durfte zwar später weiterlaufen, aber für mich war dies der Moment, in dem sich alles geändert hat.

Wieder zu Hause habe ich dann aus dem Bedürfnis heraus, irgendwas zu tun, bei zwei Videostreams gespielt, allerdings hat mich dieses Format nicht wirklich überzeugt. Ich finde das einen traurigen Versuch, etwas zu ersetzen, das ohne persönliche Nähe nicht ersetzbar ist, deswegen habe ich es dann gelassen. Danach habe ich noch zwei Podcasts gemacht, einen für Tal der Verwirrung und nun diesen hier, für United We Rise 🙂 

Bei meinem ersten Gig seit dem Beginn der Pandemie (auf dem Wumms Festival, der ersten Ausgabe der Festival-Reihe auf dem Wilde Möhre Gelände) durfte ich dann das Festival eröffnen. Als da die ersten Bässe aus der Anlage kamen, war ich ziemlich überwältigt und glücklich.

Ich vermisse die Festivals und das gemeinsame Tanzen sehr, aber wenn ich ehrlich bin, kann ich diese unfreiwillig auferlegte Auszeit auch genießen. Ich hatte diesen Sommer viel Zeit für Quality time mit Freund:innen und Familie, die hatte ich die letzten Jahre kaum.

🗯🗯 Wo hast du diesen Mix aufgenommen? Wie ging es dir dabei? 🗯🗯

Diesen Mix habe ich in unserem Massageraum aufgenommen, Corona bedingt musste unser „Spielzimmer“ dahin umziehen. Das hat mir ein bisschen ein Gefühl von Wellness gegeben, weil es so gut nach Massageöl riecht. Davon abgesehen vermittelt der Podcast denke ich ganz gut meine momentane Stimmung.

🗯🗯 Was wünscht du dir für die Zeit nach oder mit Corona? 🗯🗯

Ich wünsche mir einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit der Pandemie, in der Hoffnung einen Weg zu finden, uns unsere Feierkultur Stück für Stück zurück zu erobern, ohne uns und andere Menschen zu gefährden. Ich betrachte diesen Zustand nach wie vor als eine Phase, die hoffentlich irgendwann vorbei sein wird. Und ich hoffe inständig, dass all die kleinen und größeren alternativen Kultur- und Freiräume und ihre Künstler:innen und Kollektive diese Phase überstehen.

House has always been a feeling for Aron Friedman, who has played an active role in the Dutch electronic music scene for the last twenty years – as an artist, promoter, journalist, and copywriter. He has performed at many renowned clubs and festivals in the Netherlands and abroad, has released a string of EPs and remixes under different monikers, has written for leading music publications like VICE, ResidentAdvisor and DJMag, and has assisted many organizations and artists as a copywriter.

Both as an artist and as a journalist, Aron Friedman likes to dig deeper, uncovering some of the most enchanting gems and remarkable stories. Behind the decks, Aron aims to move you physically, mentally and spiritually. Instead of limiting himself to one specific genre, each DJ-set is a journey through a lifetime of crate digging and dance floor dedication. He’s also part of Spaceandtime, a stellar concoction with Eric de Man. Throwing raves under bridges and in fields with their organization and record label Capsule, they’re representing rave culture in Amsterdam... and beyond.
