Black Light Smoke’s US-based imprint Death Decay Magic invites The Hacker, Cardopusher, Man 2.0 and Adrian Marth to remix tracks from the first three releases on the imprint.

After seven years of brand building as a podcast mix series, Death Decay Magic was launched as a record label in March 2020 by Jordan Lieb aka Black Light Smoke. With a DIY ethos, Death Decay Magic explores the darker, eclectic realms of electronic music, bridging techno with EBM, minimal synth and post-punk.

Death Decay Magic Remixes Vol. 1 is a compilation remix EP, drawing on the first three Death Decay Magic releases; Black Light Smoke ‘Line and Shadows’, Daniel Holt ‘Traveler’, and Man 2.0 & Black Light Smoke ‘Holy Hammer’. Death Decay Magic invites remixes from The Hacker, Cardopusher, Adrian Marth, Man 2.0, and Black Light Smoke on a release that illustrates the labels blueprint perfectly: raw, edgy synth music with ghostly vocals; one foot in techno, the other stepping out into the unknown.

Zone Music boss The Hacker gets things underway with a crunchy remix of Black Light Smoke ‘Lines’ featuring crystalline leads, zapping synths and whirring stabs. Up next, Man 2.0 and Black Light Smoke’s ‘Bodywork’ gets a remix from Classicworks founder Cardopusher as he takes the remix into mystifying territories with revolving modulations bouncing elegantly off the chugging rhythm. Night Noise artist Man 2.0 follows by laying down an industrial-tinged electro remix of ‘Traveler’ with otherworldly atmospheres, gauzy textures and dynamic elements.
Italo Moderni label boss Adrian Marth follows with an interpretation of ‘Bank For God’ as the spiralling EBM sonics flow vigorously and the drilling rhythms get to work underneath. DDM honcho Black Light Smoke then finishes things off with a version of his track, ‘Your Own Hands,’ which fuses rubbery bass grooves, playful melodies and vibrant 909s.

Bristol-based producer Remotif has lovingly curated a selection of tunes from some of his favourite producers for Stranger Together, a VA compilation aimed at raising funds for the International Rescue Committee (IRC). 

IRC is currently assisting with emergency resettlement for Afghan refugees. Afghanistan is the single country most at risk of deteriorating humanitarian crises in 2022, and 100% of the profits from this release will provide uprooted families with tents, clean water, sanitation and other basic necessities.

This 11 track release taps into a diverse selection of dancefloor tracks from producers across the world, offering everything from uplifting melodic house to dark, psychedelic techno - and everything in between.  

VÉRE leads the charge, easing the listener in with a salvo of ethereal pads and breakbeats on Only Just, before passing the baton on to Maara for her dark and trippy roller Going All The Way Up. Dylan Forbes drops shimmering house number Feels Like, which segues nicely into the effervescent uptempo sparkle of Manami’s Sunbeams. 
Remotif’s emotive, Final Fantasy-inspired The Golden Shiny Wire of Hope continues this uplifting energy before giving way to DJ Life’s trademark Aussie tech-prog funk with The Barrens. Alphonse’s Still Eye offers a propulsive, skitterish breakbeat workout and Ciel & Roberto switch things up with the bass-heavy machine groove of Deep FM.  

Ramu’s Nothing Else To Do adds a dash of hyperkinetic acid and LUXE’s Level Up hits hard with some truly stomach-churning basslines. To round off the compilation, Boulderhead deploys his trademark flavor of lean, wiggy trance-not-trance with Leaf Power Up.

A recent stalwart of Sydney’s blossoming underground music scene, Posture brings us their first international release, a 5 TRACK MULTI-GENRE EPIC

The EP features unusually long tracks that dip and weave beautifully between genres, much like the Record Thief dips and weaves amongst the shadows on a late night thieving excursion..😈😈😈

Rave, electro, techno, breaks feature all on one track… let alone throughout the EP that has incredible variety. Elements of techno and breaks (+ more) perfectly align with atmospheric breakdowns that draw the listener in before driving powerfully forward.

To say we are excited about this release is a massive understatement. We think this collection of songs is stratospherically sick, defying convention, incredibly produced, and pushing a unique sound forward outside of boxed ideas of genre. 

This release is exactly what we set out to do when we started the label , so we couldn’t be happier for this to be an SG release. @deejayposture is up next, watch this space!!!

Frond's journey continues with her inaugural release on wax! We were first introduced to Frond when she was being booked for DJ sets by some of London's most exciting promoters. Having caught her play we were quick to get in touch and after releasing a wicked mix on the pod series, we started chatting about pushing her productions on the label.

Having released on her own Cross Pollination platform, and more recently, putting together a remix for Nickon Faith, Purple FIelds sees Frond continue to develop her signature acidy prog that has become so familiar across her dj sets. 🌱

Brooklyn based Sentient State debuts on P. Leone's E-Missions, while fine Irish talent Cromby comes correct with a standout remix.
As Sentient State, Aaron Seth Vaslow is an avant-garde artist who seamlessly fuses acid, electro, techno and breakbeat into slick and futuristic soundscapes that work both mind and body. He also already released on Source Material and, along with remixer Cromby, appeared on the latest Nerang Recordings VA, which landed late July.
This is an absorbing EP right from the off. 'Welcome To The Sentient State' is icy cold, with a metallic mix of drums and hits powering you along while majestic and frosted keys ring out into the vast open spaces above. Soothing and emotive yet also hugely dynamic, it's a tasteful electro track of the highest order.
'Fear Is The Mind Killer' is just as kinetic, with a mix of rugged drum programming and warm bass, heavenly pads and urgent snares all making for a new sound that is part techno, part electro. 'A System of Cells' is a crisp, high speed electro track with snapping hits and far-sighted chords racing through the cosmos.
Last of all, remixer Cromby held a six year residency at the legendary Shine in Belfast, has released on Sulta Selects Silver Service, Feel My Bicep and Unknown To The Unknown and is a DJ who tours the world. His version of 'Fear Is The Mind Killer' a dreamy ambient track that eventually takes off on dark and tightly woven drums and bass. It's eerie yet beautiful and hugely powerful space techno.

The premiere release of the Polish label is 'Dark Reverb' EP by MDS, which is also part of this collective. This is the debut EP of the Polish artist, which is a consequence of his dynamic development and willingness to cross new borders.

'Dark Reverb' EP contains 4 tracks that bring a dark atmosphere interwoven with ambient sounds, strong bass and favorite elements used by MDS, giving the tracks the right pace.

"Dark Reverb" is a slower track but with stronger bass beats and drums with a large dose of reverb and echo. MDS also presents effects that definitely diversify the sound. The sound of the guitars together with the weight of the song drive the listener towards the dark.

The shamanic journey "Attack" offers goes from ambient sounds to factory noises, scream and hard kick.

Rhythmic beats and bass resonance make your heart beat faster. "Intramural Voice" is a mixture of soaring whistles and reverbs with a synthesizer melody broken by drum beats constitute the basis of this track. In the background, heavy but barely audible bass is the background of the track.

MDS presents "Transposition" based on your favorite elements. Industrial bass kick is intertwined with a fast classic percussion cymbal in high timbre. Colored with atmospheric reverberation and an undefined noise, the track is a mixture of fast pace in a dark and heavy style. Impacts imitating the sounds of tin containers at the end of the piece complete the space.
