Lobster Theremin ambient sub-label Lobster Sleep Sequence announce the double LP + 7” album Unfinished from Dutch producer nthng - featuring a limited run of copies on deep green vinyl. 
Themed around events in the artist's life, Unfinished is a deeply personal journey, yet there’s something very relatable to the world he has conjured. Lockdown has forced us to look inward, explore realities within ourselves and the fragility of our forgotten world. The album is a series of peaks and troughs - hopeful words, ominous tones and other-worldly soundscapes, giving way to a journey in no way linear - but a true reflection of our times. 
The title track sets the scene perfectly, while Son features deep bass notes, dreamy keys and spoken word - creating a visceral and unsettling scene. Subnautica resides in the fringes of ambient and techno - as tribalistic drums are suspended in our new rendered reality. 
The marching bass and howling synths of Wrath of the Demon lull conspicuously in a vacuum, while the hauntingly beautiful vocals featured on Disappeared But Not Forgotten evoke a poignant, powerful reaction across the record’s B-side - “Everything stopped, you just disappeared...”
At its most tranquil Our Time offers a sense of rest - a space to appreciate, as we leave the window open, peer outside and feel the gentle breeze brush across our face. Saafe continues this theme, and feels like a warm embrace - “She saved my life in a matter of speaking, then she gave me back the power to believe.”
Ending Theme is beautifully organic as you hear the sound of the piano pedal touch the floor,  tones are introspective and vulnerable - while the looming presence of uncertainty subtly takes form in thinly layered pads. 
The album also sees the release of a digi only bonus track Only a Flash of Light and invites you outside while the stars are at their brightest.

Nthng - Atlantis [Artaphine Premiere]

Giordano lands on IDA’s Sävy Records for the label's first outing of 2021. With this dynamic four-track EP the producer introduces a new sound in his arsenal as he reaches the spaces between ambient, techno and UK breaks. 

Hailing from Padua, Italy, and currently based in Berlin, Giordano is established as a purveyor of blistering techno, with Glasgow imprint Soma Records and Granulart Records from Kessell (one half of revered Spanish duo Exium) being among the labels snapping up his tracks. However, in the last eighteen months he’s been further experimenting with breaks in the studio, utilising analog and digital tools to craft a stirring, potent brew that exudes a sense of timelessness. 

Kicking the EP off is ‘Into Your Mind’, a pounding cut with industrial-strength thuds looming large before the grip loosens with wistful keys, a shooting synth and soaring, shimmering notes. ‘Catch Up’ reveals Giordano’s deftness with melodies as the booming breakbeat blasts are propelled by the emotive, melancholic quality of the sweeping melody line. The rampant ‘Sticky End’ unleashes chaos while ‘Lisbon Bridge’ closes the EP on a more mellow, introspective trip.

For the episode, I had the pleasure to catch up with Doug Cooney. We had a chat about 5 of his favourite tracks that have influenced him over the years and some that continue to inspire him as an artist today. 
I really enjoyed this chat as we got naturally side tracked, touching on things like mindset, life and martial arts.

BIOGRAPHY:
Doug Cooney has cultivated his knowledge of Techno music over many years. Doug's passion for this craft runs deep and his DJ sets span the full spectrum of Techno, past and present. His style and attention to detail have earned him warm up sets for many of his Techno heroes, with Dave Clarke, James Ruskin, UVB and Abstract Division to name a few. He has been seen playing in venues throughout Ireland as well as numerous international bookings including a trip to the Tresor Club in Berlin for the New Faces event being one of the highlights of his career to date. Doug brings a similarly tireless ethos to his own productions, which blend classic analogue synthesis with contemporary digital sound design.
Since completing a master’s degree in Music Technology, Doug has released on labels such as Orbis, GND, Gynoid, EFR, Bastardo Electrico, N&N Records, Research & Orgone alongside RLSD Records his own imprint laying a strong foundation for his future in music. His productions has received support from Dave Clarke, Amelie Lens, Ben Sims, Luke Slater, Rodhad, KR!Z, and Answer Code Request. Doug’s tracks have been remixed by Aiken, Binny, Lee Holman and Dystopian records Jon Hester, proving his calibre in the international arena.
Doug is also a part of a strong team at BIFE DJ & Music Production Techniques course, working alongside Sunil Sharpe investing in the future generations of Irish Electronic music and further developing his craft in great company.
