Argentina-based label West Rules continue their superb output with a new VA titled Alien Connections VII that includes tracks from a wealth of upcoming talent.

Standing out amidst the eleven tracks included is the highly rated Pyramidal Decode from Italy, who has released music on quality labels such as Edit Select Records, Abstract Division’s Dynamic Reflection, Fernanda Martins’ Devotion and Vegim’s TMMR.

For this DT:Premiere we selected his track “Atr” with a sinister mood and twisted sounds. A stabbing and muted synth rides through a spacey, analogue atmosphere, allowing tension to build into two powerful waves of satisfying climaxes.

The main feature was to limit the sound sources and effects to a small number. This creates a certain depth that comes to the fore through the minimalist arrangement.

With only a handful of elements, symbioses are inevitably created here, which prove themselves through their own character in the mix. 

It is recommended to listen to the tracks one after the other.

Ø [Phase]’s 2015 album ‘Alone in Time?’ was the second LP in a remarkable line of releases on Token since 2007. Token65 is a retrospective tribute to the record, offering remixes of two of its tracks.
 
The utilitarian discord of R-Mash is remixed by James Ruskin & Karl O’ Connor (Regis) under their recently-rekindled O/V/R collaboration. Their interpretation highlights the rattling percussion of the original and its juxtaposition with the tense and uneasy anti-harmony that emerges from its pulse.

On the other side, Ø [Phase] revisits the album’s title piece. ‘Alone in Time?’ originally appeared as a restless arrangement, driven by its fluttering melody and bolstered by a damp, staggering kick. In its reimagined form, the track is forged into a solid construction for the dancefloor, with its impatient theme re-appearing as a delirious climax.
