Half a year after SAMA’s debut release on his newly opened imprint,
Maximalist_Minimalist is back with the follow-up, again accompanied by an awe-inspiring artwork by Argentinian Ric Santesteban.
Where the first EP marked a new era, with the opening of his label and a change in his sound, the second EP will further cement the fact that SAMA takes this new venture very seriously. MXMN002 once again features 4 tracks from the man himself, starting off with his personal favourite, “End All”. End All consists of an eerie, urgent sound, conveying a feeling as if being chased. Gritty shakers and a hard kick drive the track forward, while psychotic synth-stabs and bell-like sounds keep you on your toes.
Kill The Heat is the second track on the EP, and is a bit more functional and repetitive than its predecessor, although also accompanied by a dark arpeggiated synth, ever-so-slightly morphing and modulating.
Forced To Revolt starts off the B-side of the EP. This track puts a big focus on synths and atmospherics, all interweaving and constantly changing, panning and filtering. This track is the most mental and intense track on the EP. Lastly, Tripping Over Wires is a more fun cut, quite groovy and driving, accompanied by a “tripping” and interesting melody line, hence the name of the track.

SAMA - Forced To Revolt [Artaphine Premiere]

Slam finish off a massive 2022 with their latest release, the Mover EP. Constantly progressing their sound, the duo have crafted 4 heavy duty tracks that straddle varying degrees of techno and once again displays their commitment to their sound

The pace is set with Mover opening the EP with thundering, unrelenting drums that pause briefly only to unleash another layer of fury with buzzing rave stabs. The driving Signal is up next featuring that classic Slam groove against a backdrop of punishing, looped out beats. Obsidian pushes a more twisted and hypnotic sound with trippy synths layering up against sturdy percussion once again. Grit closes out the EP with crisply produced percussion rattling across alarm like synths delivering on proper peak time madness.

Pyramidal Decode returns home after his Logical Interference EP from 2022, his soundcrafting has evolved significantly since then and now it's time to provide us with a full length album, traveling across many sound paths, from completely beatless to pure floor action. Nine tracks that are meant to be listened in a row, telling a sonic story, carefully crafted and arranged a crescendo that starts from static bleeps and textures to broken rhythms across pure gymnastic tools and ending again in a relaxed mood. On the first four tracks the sound is minimal and scientific, starting with Climate Change, a solitary reverberated bleep spiced with micro noises going into the sci fi inspired Novel Entities, beatless but intense, ideal to be used as a mixing tool with a proper beat. Next comes Stratospheric Ozone Depletion floaty and liquid, the pure sound of non gravity. Action starts with Atmospheric Aerosol broken fast groove, heavy sub bass action and shuffled percussive work make this track the perfect tool for igniting any proper club. Ocean Acidification is a no remorse modern techno workout, direct to your feet but with a mental approach while Biogeochemical Flows goes martian and bleepy in a kind of futuristic interlude, bringing us to stress and dance again with Freshwater Use phrenetic and hypnotic all in one. Land-System Change slows down the pace, bringing the broken rhythms again and also employing bleeps and elastic resonant sound to start the descending from outer space. Finally, Biosphere Integrity brings us to the quiet and beatless feeling in a beautiful IDM exercise spice with subtle acid sequences.
