This week we have a release from Containment's very own @Pundit-uk, with a dark breaks/funky inspired tune. Nightfall combines sinister pads with crispy breakbeat drums, along with a biting main synth making up the drop.

A relative newcomer to the scene, Pundit is just starting to get recognition, with early support on Nightfall from tastemakers @MyNuLeng and @HolyGoof_uk! Definitely one to keep an eye on over the next year.

Last year we did a little free 3 track EP titled 'Elements'. The aim of this EP was to shed some light on some of the newcomers to the scene who haven't had any huge exposure yet. With this in mind we decided we should do something similar again this year, so behold 'Funky Elements Vol 1." Vol.1 covers different sides of the funky sound from Pundit's carnival roller, complimented with Solomon Eves' more funky bass side and Elivo bringing the more techno/garage side. Make sure you give all these guys a follow as they're really starting to do absolute bits and will be seeing more of them in the future.

‘Tunnels’ begins with a flurry of drums before being enveloped by sub-bass pressure, like stepping directly into a basement club in full flow. As the track climaxes, saxophones sweep the air like green-spoked lasers overhead, creating a contrast of pinpoint clarity against the background atmosphere. Though sonically well outside Bristol’s dubstep legacy, it accurately portrays the smudged perception of a peak time rave. On the flip, we find the more introverted 'First Light', wherein the group downshift from the buzz of a bustling room to the hum of one’s head as dawn breaks. It is a moment of spacious solitude shared only, as Cunningham pictures it, with “swans fighting over polystyrene chip boxes” in the canal below.

Articulate Sound are a midlands based, digital label that are at the forefront of the UK underground bass scene. Set out to give undiscovered, upcoming artists a platform and foundation to showcase their talent, and to look for individual styles and sounds you won’t hear anywhere else. Articulate specialise in UK Bass, UK Funky and Breaks however covering all spectrums of the scene, from Bassline to Grime they have it covered.

Founded in 2015 as a promotional Soundcloud channel, they then went on to release a succession of free compilations, featuring artists from all over the world such as Landis LaPace and Cellardore to name a few. In the closing months of 2016, they then took it a step further and released a huge joint collaboration with renowned promoter, distributor and publisher Pack London. Although only being a free channel, Articulate Sounds releases have received support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Rinse, Represent and Radar amongst many others.

Along with releasing over 140 tracks for over 70 different artists, Articulate Sound have now also launched their own events, showcasing their extensive roster and some of the best upcoming artists in the underground scene, with TC4, Darkzy and Murder He Wrote headlining thus far.

In 2017, Articulate grew even stronger, hitting number 1 in the UKG and Breakbeat charts with their debut official release by Daze Prism, receiving support from the likes of My Nu Leng, DJ EJ and many others and even getting called “one of the most consistent curator channels in modern broken and bass music” by Juno Download. Articulate then went onto hit number 1 again for Doc Zee’s debut release “Feel Free”, which has since been featured in the likes of DJMag and Dummy. Finishing off 2017 Articulate released their final EP of the year titled “PINK GUN” by Ivo and went onto be called “One of our standout labels of 2017 for a top draw project” by Juno Download themselves. 2018 has been no calmer for Articulate, already releasing Spectrum’s debut single “Resonate” in January aswell as having releases lined up for the next 12 months that are sure to cook up a storm, it’s fair to say Articulate are not a label to sleep on.
