To kick off 2018 we bring you more fresh talent through the likes of Break The Religion & ManGo. Their collab entitled ‘Fear’ has a piercing snare that cuts through the build up until the rumbling bass accompanied with the electro style synth swings the track into action before coming back around with an even more ruthless 2nd drop made up of a number of bass’s giving a statement of intent that ‘Fear’ puts these young producers right on the map.

Between the two 19 year old producers they have 4 years experience on the buttons experimenting in different styles of Bass House amassing support from DevelopMENT, Pelikann, Shift K3y, Mofaux and more. The 2 Bass House enthusiasts have played venues across Bristol, Cardiff & Plymouth supporting names from Chris Lorenzo, Taiki Nulight, DJ Zinc, Notion, Bassboy, Wen, DJ Luck & MC Neat just to mention a few. ManGo’s latest release came on PAR just before Christmas entitled ‘Elastic’ so 2018 is looking to be the year they’ll announce themselves with a bang starting with their debut 1Forty Release.

Downplay is proud to present the new EP from Lincolnshire producer Deadly Habitz.

‘Do It All Again’ is a mellow, dubbed-out 2-step bubbler, complete with echoing vocals and subtle keys dropping in and out of the mix. Underpinnng the beat is a classic UKG bassline designed to drive the groove forward. One for them hazy, smoked-out twilight hours.

‘You Got Me’ opens up the tempo with a rolling 2-step beat over retro piano keys and diva vocals, before dropping into some seriously filthy sub-bass that will test any soundsystem. Finally label mates Royal Flush step up to remix the former track into a blissed-out dub joint packed full of sunshine for those mellower moments on the floor.

Close your eyes, open your ears; AND you’re straight back in those early raves (or early for myself at least) - pushing some of the vast sub-genres that surround house music, the vibes that the likes of Lorenzo, Disclosure and similar dominated - ones that’ll consistently fill us all with happy memories of the times we spent enjoying this side of electronic music.

Another fresh artist on board with our optimistic movement as well, another submission that just filled me with joy when listening to it for the first time. It’s a side of dance music we haven’t covered enough, and though it dominates any set / stream I play recently, it’s one that I had almost let slip through recent years at uni etc.

Large ups Zonal. Music does a lot for all of our brains, but this one especially. Articulate Sound are a midlands based, digital label that are at the forefront of the UK underground bass scene. Set out to give undiscovered, upcoming artists a platform and foundation to showcase their talent, and to look for individual styles and sounds you won’t hear anywhere else. Articulate specialise in UK Bass, UK Funky and Breaks however covering all spectrums of the scene, from Bassline to Grime they have it covered.

Founded in 2015 as a promotional Soundcloud channel, they then went on to release a succession of free compilations, featuring artists from all over the world such as Landis LaPace and Cellardore to name a few. In the closing months of 2016, they then took it a step further and released a huge joint collaboration with renowned promoter, distributor and publisher Pack London. Although only being a free channel, Articulate Sounds releases have received support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Rinse, Represent and Radar amongst many others.

Along with releasing over 140 tracks for over 70 different artists, Articulate Sound have now also launched their own events, showcasing their extensive roster and some of the best upcoming artists in the underground scene, with TC4, Darkzy and Murder He Wrote headlining thus far.

In 2017, Articulate grew even stronger, hitting number 1 in the UKG and Breakbeat charts with their debut official release by Daze Prism, receiving support from the likes of My Nu Leng, DJ EJ and many others and even getting called “one of the most consistent curator channels in modern broken and bass music” by Juno Download. Articulate then went onto hit number 1 again for Doc Zee’s debut release “Feel Free”, which has since been featured in the likes of DJMag and Dummy. Finishing off 2017 Articulate released their final EP of the year titled “PINK GUN” by Ivo and went onto be called “One of our standout labels of 2017 for a top draw project” by Juno Download themselves. 2018 has been no calmer for Articulate, already releasing Spectrum’s debut single “Resonate” in January aswell as having releases lined up for the next 12 months that are sure to cook up a storm, it’s fair to say Articulate are not a label to sleep on.
