Throughout her residency at St George’s Hospitals, musician Jelly Cleaver has worked with our community to understand
a flavour of the music and sounds welcomed for comfort and relaxation when in the healthcare setting. The resulting
artistic outcome, entitled ‘Healing Suite’, is a series of 5 originally composed and recorded pieces of music. It is the
culmination of months of research, creative collaboration, and reflection at St George’s and Queen Mary’s Hospitals. 

‘Healing Suite’ is intended to evoke calm and relaxation. It features harpist Catrin Meek, who Jelly first met whilst being
invited to perform together for St George’s Arts Week 2022 and extracts of recordings from the St George’s Staff Choir.

All but one of the pieces are based on improvisation. The final piece, entitled ‘Know The Sun Will Come’ is a lullaby often sung
by Jelly to patients and children at St George’s Hospital.
For ‘Healing Suite’, Jelly delved into different traditions where sound and music are used for healing. The pieces contain Solfeggio Frequencies which were first used in ancient sacred music such as Gregorian and Sanskrit chants, and the different frequencies are believed to have unique healing properties. The suite also reflects on the five elements, which are traditionally used in healing. Each piece is based on one of the five elements - air, earth, water, fire and ether/emptiness. 

Listening to the whole suite in succession is therefore intended to restore your internal balance.
