‘I Remember: Exeter’s Memory of the Covid-19 Pandemic’ is an audiobook created by Professor David Tollerton (University of Exeter) in association with Exeter City Council and the Mayoralty. It draws together collective memories of the pandemic.

The contributions were gathered from people across Exeter in January 2025. They were collected and edited by David Tollerton using a model devised by Alec Finlay and Joe Brainard. The audiobook is read by Leah Lawford.

They are varied in their emotions and content, and some may be difficult to hear. But we think that they’re so important to be shared.

The project is tied to the fifth anniversary of the first lockdown, and associated with the rededication of a memorial tree and plaque in Northernhay Gardens. The rededication ceremony took place on 23 March 2025.

Part of Tender Acts, a 2024/2025 Arts Commission by Arts and Culture University of Exeter. The commission has been led by Artist Georgia Gendall and creative producers Field Notes. Together they brought together staff, students and artists at the University of Exeter's Cornwall campuses, to curate and develop a programme of creative activity exploring a sense of belonging to place. 

On Wednesday 26 March 2025, the Tender Acts team created a silent disco like no other at the Penryn campus library, where 80+ participants turned up to tune into the unnoticed rhythms that shape the everyday soundscape of campus.

Members of the SU Birdwatching Society, Life Drawing Society, Anime & Manga Society, Rugby Ladies, and Puppetry collaborated with artists Georgia Gendall, Naomi Frears, and Liam Jolly to capture the hidden beats and rhythms of campus life. The sounds they created and recorded were then developed into the set list for the silent disco which encouraged listeners to experienceand hear the unique sounds of the Penryn campus in a whole new way.

This track has been created out of sounds at the Penryn campus including 'Ladies Rugby - 'Ready, ready up!', Soap dispenser, Accessibility lift - Tremough House Annex'.

Part of a series of Insect Love Songs created by award-winning poet Fiona Benson and BBC radio producer Mair Bosworth as part of our 2019 Urgency Arts Commissions.

In this sound piece they visit the Ambios nature conservation farm on the Sharpham Estate in Devon, to meet conservation educator Mike Cooke who shows us where to look for glowworms - “they look like little LEDs - it’s hard to believe it’s an insect the first time you see it, it looks far too bright”.   

Glow-worms are not worms at all, but beetles belonging to the family Lampyridae. In the UK, adult glow-worms are active between May and September. The females are wingless, with a light-producing organ at the end of their abdomen. The female will climb to a high point, such as a blade of grass, and turn her glowing light upwards, in the hope of attracting a flying male. Due to the importance of light to their communication and mating, light pollution is considered a factor in areas where glow-worm populations are in decline.
