Mihai Popoviciu, from Sibiu in Romania, is considered one of the most innovative eastern European producers of electronic music today.

If we have to pick one artist who consistently deliver quality tracks that we have on repeat all day every day it has to be Mihai. I think we have 10-15 tracks of his in constant rotation and each track deliver pure golden grooves all throughout.

Mihai was born in Romania in 1981 and was drawn to the fast-growing rave scene of the 90’s. He started producing music in 2001 being influenced by the techno and house virus and it took many years of experiments untill he came up with his first vinyl release on DJ Hell’s imprint Gigolo Records in 2005. Since then he has steadily added chapters to his personal success story with solo projects and those with partners like Markus Homm or Jay Bliss.

It’s not a big surprise that Mihai’s reputation as a DJ grew fast in the past years taking him to Europe’s most important clubs and venues. His flavourous dj sets have a distinctive peronal touch delivering you a perfectly balanced mixture of groovy beats, warm pads and musical emotiones that will get you addicted.

More exquisite heat from one of the most consistent producers out there. Mihai Popoviciu has been racking up an enviable discography in the past few years, as releases on Highgrade, Hudd Trax, Bondage Music and Popcorn Records testify. 

This, his latest outing on home-from-home Poker Flat, suggests we may yet have the best to come. 'Time' is a low-slung slice of electronic funk, featuring a dirty bass line and lazy, growling synth skirmishes. The feeling is tech-y, underground and analog - a perfect vibe for the Romanian's killer grooves. 

'Stay' drops a gear and cruises into even deeper territory. The melodies entwine to build a lush deep house groove, punctuated by a wonky lead and punchy, insistent drums. Popoviciu manages to hold plenty back, before unleashing a fierce drop.

'Paper Box' maintains the stripped-down sound design, leaving plenty of space for Popoviciu's signature synth squiggles, stabs and fragments of melody. The result is a slick, grooving piece of futurist dance music. 

Beatport customers also get an exclusive additional track- the highly charged, deeply narcotic 'Turn'. Dropped at the right moment, this is going to destroy a few late night parties like nothing else.

The last few months have been amazing in terms of remix assignments and gigs. Dan Reynolds really has an amazing voice and I have done my best to create a good tune around the solid vocals. Here we have an exclusive full premiere of a great new track from Nikolas Noam called 'We Will Be Alright'. We've got hold of Luis Leon's 'Bipolar Rework' just for you, so we hope you enjoy it. 

We spoke to Luis Leon about the remix and here's what he said: "This is a new track I made for blankhaus after my last bootleg. Focusing on a different perspective with my music and fresh ideas for the label, I wanted to recreate that view in my own music as well, trying different stuff out of my comfort zone and to experiment with some freedom. This doesn't mean that I'm stuck now in some new trend or that my music should always be like this but I wanted to explore new atmospheres and contrasts. The original track is beatless and sounds like a soundtrack, so I wanted to make a rework that kept the main sensibilities of the original but with some groove for the dancers."

And groove it has in abundance! This is a fantastic remix and the ideal way to start off the new year...

Here's an exclusive premiere of a brand new track forthcoming on Andre Crom's excellent and highly prolific Off Recordings. We thought it was a great track and couldn't wait to present it to you, our Deep House London family.

Melokolektiv are a duo who have already become synonymous with deep and harmonious beats and Darlyn Vlys is the head of Sincopat and one of the most prolific tech house luminaries around. The three producers got together to create a profound deep-tech groove with an indie influence preparing the mood perfectly for Forrest to add a catchy vocal, heightening the mood to get the spine-tingling and your hairs standing on end.

Today we premiere Clarian's latest offering on Anjunadeep entitled ‘Kill For Love.’ The track kicks off the three-track EP with tantalising keys and mournful vocals, wrapped around a surging acid bassline.

04 Mihai Popoviciu - Glow

Straight out of Romania, Mihai Popoviciu has established him self as a producer and DJ of high repute in the past few years. His releases on labels such as Highgrade, Fear of Flying and Hudd Traxx have raised the bar pretty high when it comes to his own distinctive take of the tech-house sound du jour, but it’s this latest outing on Poker Flat Recordings where sparks really start to fly. 

The four tracks on the Here EP share a similar aesthetic and sound design, yet each is as essential as the other. 

'Call Me' rides a dark and low slung groove, eventually unleashing a soulful, neo-prince vocal refrain amid the spacey, atmospheric synths.   

Title track 'Here' follows a similar dynamic, but with a more straight up focus – a fat, rolling house bomb for the floor.  

'Low' takes things a notch deeper, and a shade darker, showcasing Mihai’s passion for Detroit and the techier end of the spectrum. 

'Curbat' rounds off the release, maintaining a course for the funky sound Mihai is fast becoming a leading proponent of.
