white noise of tires on roads makes him ill
drop in some extreme, kick butt, CD tunes
ease back upon his head rest and just chill
while traveling to a new face with no plan
he stares at the directions in his hand
he's getting close to where he wants to be
he stopped three times to eat, and take a pee
warm breezes through the window bring the scent
of summer nights, in this state, fate has lent
soon he is just but one left turn away
moon hanging fingernail-ish, lights his way
to seven numbers listed yesterday
and promises that sent him on his way
soon doorbells chime, and then her brightest smile
invites him in for wine, to stay awhile
small talk, it leads to silent, lingering stares,

Reminiscing is a prison
and it just leaves me missing
the taste of yours lips
back when we
were still kissing
and the warmth in your eyes
before they were dismissing
all the love that we savored

that our past could be hidden
all my moments with you
evermore, left unwritten....

any memories that pain me
in my mind, all forbidden
and my wish it came true
it stole all recognition

with a Huge, joyous grin

sharing kisses with girls

any place our paths cross
on some upcoming day

I’ve been granted anesthesia
which gave me amnesia,

Oh, the things
we’ll do for love
the list is endless
for no one wants
to be alone
and windup
dying friendless
and although we love
our independence
it is the general consensus
that sharing love
is far more fun
and makes each
day momentous
we’ll wait by
our phone for any post
hoping a call will come in
from the one person
that we want most
till cobwebs
start to form
from it’s black screen
connecting to our chin
we’ll write endless
poetry and songs
that we never plan to send
never realizing
that they’d be charmed
If they were to just get them
we follow them from a distance
just to see them for a bit
ready to duck in an instant
peeking like a little kid
we take time to
build up courage
to just engage in
conversation
while all around us
lovers flourish
with no mental masturbations
and when we finally
have met them
most will welcome
your advance
others may turn you away
because they’re bound
to a romance
but you have to
take that chance
you’ve got to learn
to do love’s dance
throw your doubts
and fears far
from your heart
give every single
soul a glance
for all of them
are just like you
always seeking some one
who’ll be true
and so Damned tired of being blue
and there isn’t much
they wouldn’t do
to share a love that’s new

it starts with a glance
and a smile
and the crossing of

with sweet joy

There ain't nothing dryer
then un-kissed lips,
Pink, petulant apertures,
not pacified by passion,
all that is moist goes right
out of a body and soul
loneliness is a saguaro,
arms endlessly beseeching
empty heavens in a
godless wasteland.

I've seen such ravaged
beauty as it's skulking
around bus stations,
or on dark streets cruising
one eye blackened
and the other one inviting
the drunken fist of one
more sad, loveless encounter.

They haunt the smoky
bingo halls during middle age,
in flowing Mu-mus, sweat pants
and thick pancaked rouge
their cotton panties left
Sahara's to blisses dew,
while bloated hubbies doze,
they chase cash cows elusive,
pounding wet spots faithfully
on plain white sheets,
reminiscent of lovemaking
days long vanished.

They also sit like snow queens
inside homes for aging
in frozen drifts of time,
white hairdos spun,
over pale blue eyes
that gaze with cloudy wonder,
back to days of splendor
wrapped in lover's arms,
but the droughts of intimacy
turned them each into raisins,
who squat shriveled now,
strapped into single chairs...
till death grants to them
a very welcomed kiss.

Oh, I hope it's like this
on the other side
where heaven holds
so much more love
..........far above
after the ravages of time
have left so many souls
deserted with no dessert.

I think when we move on
from this world
we will be enveloped
in a love like we have never known
and we will have everything
we were denied
at least I hope that's true
for all of you out there
who have known
loneliness like me.

Back Home

I’ve been all around this crazy world
seen some amazing faces and places
I’ve lived in cities that had no pity
and small towns with kinder gazes

Always looking for a place to settle
that would ease my restless heart
I made friends and a few enemies
but I never found a remedy
that begged me never to depart
never to depart.....

There were always girls
who caught my eye
and coaxed me to believe
that I should share the splendid love
they offered me eagerly
and take up residence where they
planned on living permanently
but that road it just kept calling me…,
even though it was so lonely
so damned lonely….

My guitar was my only friend
through my journey’s
bookmarked pages
I wowed the crowds
till each gig’s end
on huge and tiny stages,
wailing out the songs
of pain I penned
sharing one night stands,
full of pretend
then I’d be gone
around the bend
my time was never overspent
in places I could circumvent.
places I could circumvent.....

But now I find that I
have got an itch
that travel will not scratch
all the towns I pass
through look the same
all my wanderlust is ash…..
and there is a place
I haven’t gone
in all the years that
I’ve been moving on
Where I grew up and
learned to craft my songs
where my roots lay
fallow, far too long
and though I will not
see my Dad and Mom
I wept and sang at
both their funerals
They are somewhere
in the great beyond
but their lives live on
immovable.

And my siblings will be absent too
all five live somewhere else
but it’s still my hometown where
with joy I’ll wander by myself

Back home where
all my memories
wait patiently for me
where I’ll walk the streets
that once shared the feet
of my friends and family.

And I know back home
I’ll find the peace
that I’ve been searching for
cause I’ve learned that
when you’ve had it all
back home there’s always more.

My girl next door
is single now,
I’m quite sure that’s
what I’ve heard
perhaps we’ll pick up
where we both left off
Renewing passions
left unstirred

Back home to
where my life began
no longer just
a Rolling stone
renewing friendships
with town folks I knew
I will no longer feel alone

The razor calls me off to shave

a few years from my life,

sharp tongued it offers me release

while it quibbles with the knife

The noose is just a nuisance

knotted stomach...knotted rope,

perhaps I'll pull a Winehouse

drowning in some booze and dope.

sucked in and out each day,

even gas stations they make me pay

for the Goodyears I'll deflate

in my flights across freeways.

Breathe in, then pause and savor it

when my face is stretched in painted smiles,

just a temporary measure,

as callouses press hard,

to my capture all the misery

in the waters of time
and sometimes sublime
sometimes turbulent
we mimic what love brings
from the heart swells
of our ancestors
we attempt to define
all the loves
following their designs
that they shared
but love has grown better

or a chain that enslaved
pleasing only the aggressor
men were not well behaved
Neanderthal Hammers
chose a woman and slammed her
not to kill her but own her

In the old days the men all
took so many wives
and also slave women
but sharing left them deprived
and sheiks all had harems
to fill up their bed
but if one would displease them
she would just wind up dead
Love has had a hard journey
down roads many disparage
till humans found closeness
in the sweet bonds of marriage
though there are those among us
who prefer to just mingle
taking new women weekly
Happy to remain single
and of course their are men
who take just what they want
predators on mission
leaving horrors that Haunt.
Ted Bundy, Charles Manson
Jack the Ripper and more
all used women like Kleenex
and left them dead on the floor.

But love is enduring
after all of these men
faced their own death's a curing
for their cruel acts to end

Savor love when it finds you
it's a beautiful gift
years ago it would find you
abused and dismissed

But women found rights
as they marched and they suffered
for the dreams of equality
among men, a buffer

yet love knows there's yet
many more miles to go

the Future holds promise
and perhaps it's history will show
We've become smoother ripples
in the waters of time
from the heart swells
of our ancestors
equal in body and mind
from the loves
that they shared
with a whole new design
where love has grown better
in ways time can't treasure
through more civilized endeavors
bringing all of us forever

It's not the money that you made, 
or the titles that you gained,
or the hours that you stayed

had gone on home.

Judgement Temporarily Abandoned.


We are propelled
by our needs
and our instincts,
and if the beast
should occasionally arise,
we should simply
ride it to exhaustion
and question not from
whence it came.
some urges that assail us
are as old as Neanderthral
and only being civilized 
prevents us from amswering
such  ancient calls
to barbarianism

We are granted
only so many years
70 or so you know
to flaunt and taunt,
to pick and choose,
to devour or sour,
to savor misbehavior,
to laugh and weep,
to love and hate
to pleasure or deny
to worship or blaspheme, 
God forbids
to purge and sleep.
and we are granted
but once to die
once is quite enough
don't ya thin,?

When it is all over,
then we will know
what purpose
we have served,
and all of our
minor in-discrepancies
and flaws will
matter little.
It is our love,
and our forgiveness
that will be weighed
over all the rest.
when we stand 
before our maker
to be appraised and 
found or not found worthy
so live every moment
with vigor and passion
waste not even one second
before you waste away.

Sitting here with you close to me
no one else passing us by matters
Because you mean the most to me
We found each other amidst the crowds
And  we shared gentle conversations
In a room so loud,  but I only heard you.

And truth be told we didn't even have
 to talk, what we saw in each others 
eyes assurred us that we would know 
a righteous love.  

And now here we are again 
in the same place where we met 
and became two over thirty years ago.

Still as much in love as then, still knowing
The hunger that drew us to each other,
As we savor an anniversary cocktail.
You were my calming tonic through 
some tough times and I blessed you 
with many Chardonnay days of 
mellow and yet stimulating moments.  

 So today I toast you and your loveliness 
with a hot toddy 
In honor of your even hotter body, 
and you  smile at me  with a wink 
and a rub of my leg with your foot 
to let me know we can drink to each 
other with more than our eyes later. 
And I bend across the table to savor 
your ruby lips that taste of a strawberry 
Daquiri and they whet my appetite for 
more of such dabbling  to come 

A night of all of my most favorite things
undressing you eagerly  with my eyes 
and then addressing what lies beneath.
 But for now let us nurse our drinks that 
seem a bit on the low side and  order a
bit more to enhance the buzz  of this moment 
in time. Just sitting here with you

Life is an island
we are often stranded on,
surrounded by
oceans of loneliness,
after being set adrift
by the voyages of necessity,
our home far away
and now deeply cherished,
where once we were
sometimes sick of being home,
but now we find ourselves 
simply homesick.

But Islands can
be a paradise
if we strive to adjust,
to a temporary disruption
of what once was norm,
They are full of
natives to befriend,
and many tasks
to distract us,
that in the long run,
will allow us to buy
and build our own homes,
Places our children can
cherish and long for,
when they too are set adrift
over the seas of time.

Is it not testimony to
how wonderful your family is,
to be single and free,
and making your own way,
and yet hunger for that
familiar gathering place
but the love is still there,
still warm and near,
even though miles separate you
from the smiles of your youth.

My child home is gone now,
torn down and made
into a golf course,
I often go back and sit
on the ninth hole
where my old house,
used to stand
filled with five kids
and two parents,
who gave us as much love
as poverty could grant
in the projects that
we called our neighborhood.
My homestead became Atlantis,
just another island,
sinking beneath the
rolling tides of time.

But I still have endless
memories on which to sail,
back to the open arms
of my long dead mother,
back to the toothless
grin of my dying dad,
And in their eyes, I see
a homesickness too,
but our next mansion
lies beyond this realm,
somewhere on an island
above us, far from reach,
as we live out our lives
marooned from those we love,
by the courses fate has
charted for us to follow.

This too shall pass,
and you will visit often,
Summers will be your
trusty old room,
filled with echoes
of glorious days past,
welcoming you back
with open arms

Life is an island

H2-uh-oh!!
The Scatterbrained recruit,
weary from lack of sleep
arrived at the Parris Island
Marine Corps Depot
blurry eyed and very thirsty.
He was quickly 

caught up in the scramble
of 40 other recruits
fleeing the greyhound
as a scathing voice
drilled instructions
in loud decibels of scorn
never before heard
with such disdain.
Once assembled in a straight line
inside the receiving quarters
each was scrutinized
as if they were toxic germs,

maggots on dog feces,

iliterate scrotums one and all,
each ordered to stand there
for what seemed hours.


But this recruits

dry, parched tongue
bid his sleep-heavy eyes to fall on
the gleaming chrome
of a drinking fountain
just a few feet away.


His dehydrated flesh

became a bit of a scuttlebutt
as he scampered to

the chilled temptation
and took a cool drink.


It was a scandalous act
of direct disobedience,
and he was promptly
thrown to the floor and
verbally blasted for his
indiscretion committed.

 

He was promptly labeled
a scoundrel too weak
to be a marine and so
to develop some
necessary strength
he was ordered to
give the D.I.'s 50 push-ups
every time  someone took a drink
from that fountain
for the rest of the night.


And oh, how those

scheming drill instructors
wet their whistles
into the wee hours
of his mourn.


I know of this story
all too well,
for I was that recruit,
enjoying my first night
in boot camp

The Hollow-Days Of Addiction.
(A Christmas message for all )

Christmas has come back again
For the third year in a row
And we haven't seen 
our precious son
Ever since he had to go
To jail then off to rehab
Then violating 
two probation's
the court ordered no contact
So we've had no conversations
Cause he'd abused 
his Mom so much
Leaving her soul terrified
and came after me so angrily
Every time that he got high
we both tried in 
every way we could
But then we had to say goodbye....


Christmas on drugs and alcohol 
Was never a good mix
Hanukkah plus cruel addictions
Just brings candle sadly lit
Santa Claus and faith in God
Are not enough to bring a fix
Only he can save himself
No one else can heal his needs
That have made both our hearts bleed
while he spends his hollow days
Struggling to find ways to succeed.


He'll spend another Christmas
In sober living all alone
Far away from both his parents
Knowing that he can't come home
And it cuts us deeply to the bone
Cause our tough love is no fun
But drugs and alcohol have stolen
Our most precious son
Until he proves that he is cured
and his addictions are all done.

So if you too are like our son
Suffering the same afflictions
I hope this poem moves you to flee
Back to the true life 
you've been missing
Because those who 
love you can't survive
Living with the endless friction
Of your lies and thefts 
And thier hopes left swept
Underneath your opposition
Your loved ones all must separate
themselves from your positions
Of your loving highs even as they cry
Over your tragic conditions
Leaving you alone 
while they sit at home
Praying for you and each one wishing
That you will give all that you've lost
Some serious recognition
Before you end up lying 
Under a marble inscription
that leaves them all 
Without your love
Another victim of addiction
so many others just like you
