a poetic landscape for the lovers of  word + sound:
the creation was masked and unidentifiable, but it watered her soul anyway. at some point, her creative layer came to respect that it  cannot find an ounce of value without first stretching, aching, and aching, more. nature did not require her to be a certain color or form or strong. nature nurtured free.

yellow became the color of emotional and intuitive arousal. and silk gave the hand for her to hold to see through the nights. she can behave beautifully and quietly self-preserving until she feels ready enough to feel ready enough. and this, she is able to be.

Sons Of The James is a new duo project from singer/songwriter Rob Milton and producer/musician DJ Harrison, inspired by a blend of classic Gospel music and early 2000's Soulquarians era R&B and Soul.

The B-side, featuring the legendary Georgia Anne Muldrow (the literal inventor of the phrase "stay woke" on the Erykah Badu song "Master Teacher"), was recently featured on season 4 of Issa Rae's hit show 'Insecure' on HBO. 

Rob Milton had this to say about the project's inception – "In 2015 I recorded the album of my dreams in Richmond, Virginia with DJ Harrison. Sad to say that the energy was similar at the time [as it is now]. I was coming home from BLM protests and writing songs about love to escape from the anger."

In support of Black Lives Matter, all label income from Bandcamp sales of this single will be matched by Fresh Selects and donated to various bail fund charities and organizations fighting to defund the police.

20-year-old Atu comes to us from Ann Arbor, Michigan courtesy of Sango. When we first heard Atu's music, we were blown away with his clear 90's r&b influences and diverse future sound. The Malawian producer delicately fuses bass and soul, adding his signature, elegant vocal sampling to the mix. He incorporates unique time signatures and plays nicely with the silence, consistently leaving you wanting more. Atu is poised today to deliver the sound of tomorrow through his progressive aural direction.
