Blkgold’s journey began in Detroit, where he studied the art of sampling and music theory by dissecting the work of legendary hometown producers. His creative palette draws inspiration from pioneers like J Dilla, Pharrell, Kanye West, Q-Tip, and Big K.R.I.T., blending their influence into a style that’s both soulful and innovative.

While Hip Hop remains his foundation, Blkgold’s music reflects a deep appreciation for diverse genres, fusing textures and rhythms that create a sound uniquely his own. The result is a vibe that feels familiar yet fresh—rooted in tradition, but designed to stand apart.

Born Charles-Jerome Lewis in Michigan's inner city of Detroit, ASE’ spent his childhood shortly between Missouri and Michigan.
      His personal life's paranoia was often depicted in the lyrics Ase’s music conjured. And, to be certain, a great deal of the controversy ASE’ courted -- and during the turn of the millennium, through his peers it was sought that there was no greater underated cultural underdog than Charles-Jerome Lewis -- came through in how his violent fantasias, often directed at his past-tortures to losing his father, to the relationships between him & his mother and/or him & his pregnant girlfriend, intertwined with flights of absurdity that appealed to listeners too narrow-minded to absorb the psychodramas AseNVi explored in his rhymes channeling his 'MC' side with the likes of his hometown idol, Eminem.
        Initially, the predominantly women audience he won over with his popular singing voice didn’t embrace the 'MC' side of ASE’ but, it soon gained him a reputation with those who knew him best, and he was recruited to join a few singing groups who were popular in their high-school's various talent shows throughout 1999-2000. It freed him to dig deep into his dark id, something he needed as he faced a number of personal upheavals. All this Sturm was channeled into his successful local-based group & their music which is where he first demonstrated many of the quirks that became his trademark, including his twitchy, nasal rhyming and disturbingly violent imagery when rapping & his soulful crooning voice when singing. Lewis capitalized on his forward momentum by crossing over into stage plays & film.  With his D.w.O. imprint under the umbrella. He would go on with the 2011 release of his debut solo mixtape entitled 'DECODED' under their label, in association with D.Knight Music Group, which alluded some of Lewis' past & present struggles through rhyme & folklore. It has since earned him praise & recognition as a solified MC & phenomenal singer. Lewis aside from his solo duties, recently from Summer 2011- Summer 2012 performed lead in the self-proclaimed 'space funk' group, O.T.I.S. (Out There In Space) & is now 1/4th of his R&B 'Avengers'-based quartet; XITNINE & 1/5 of his Hip-Hop/Soul 'Fugee'-style collective; OUTSIDAZ. To call ASE’ R&B is correct to a degree, but it’s largely inaccurate. Certainly, ASE’ first began his career singing, but he began rapping also to garner both sales with R&B & Hip-Hop fans and critical respect, but his impact exceeded this confining distinction. On sheer verbal & creative skills, ASE’ sites himself one of the greatest MC/Singers of his generation.
