Premiere: Valeron - Ammon [Scorpios Music]

Squire launches Anims, recruiting Ibiza mainstay Oriol Calvo and remixes from Kevin di Serna and Valentin Huedo for its debut release. Inspired by the energy of open-air parties on the White Isle, the first release on the freshly minted Anims imprint comes from previous resident of both Space Ibiza and Privilege, Oriol Calvo. An homage to long Balearic summers, ‘Love Loud’ features vocals from LMNL, the new project from Simon Batten, atop a driving and hypnotic production. Following appearances on Innervisions, Watergate, and All Day I Dream, Argentinian DJ/producer Kevin di Serna delivers an emotive remix, adding his deft touch to the original’s lyrical melodies, harmonies, and atmospherics. Rounding out the release, Ibiza’s Valentin Huedo turns in a deep and chugging remix, incorporating LMNL’s vocals into a rolling cut with sharp snares and pounding kick drums. Anims is a multi-faceted entertainment platform founded by ex-Formula 1 racer Jaime Alguersuari, now international DJ/producer Squire. It encompasses an event brand for interactive conferences and talks (virtual and physical), musical events, and an imprint for genre-free electronic music. Label boss Kadosh hosting Faide to deliver the ‘Matanot’ EP on the infamous Frau Blau label.

We are treated to five slabs of musical goodness here, so starting with the title track itself 'Matanot', A hypnotic and layered deep driver with a percussive and tribal twang, all wrapped up with an unusual top line that motors through the vibe.

First up on remix duties are Zombies In Miami, fresh from releasing on Kompakt, Running Back and Permanent Vacation with a super cool melodious workout, oozing of coolness and an underlying drive, this is a tasty re-tweak.

‘Nelam’ (Remastered) follows swiftly on, delivering a moody and sophisticated building deep affair, locking you into its magical spell, as it meanders through a trippy and cosmic edged soundscape. Uber cool.

Next up, and making quite a splash lately is the respected Man Power remix. With his music gracing Life & Death, Correspondant and Hivern Discs, he is hot property. This remix proves why, with its super cool deep voyage of undulating vibes cascading effortlessly, while we are treated to a deep and trippy viber.

Kadosh supplies 'LX' to round things off, with its retro stabs but wobbly slant, this is a timeless piece of grooviness. Big and bold.

EarthLife are an Italian duo based out of Ibiza, bringing their first EP, “India” to Steyoyoke. It’s an accessible release packed with 4 strong tracks – balancing heavy beats with the kind of shimmering details that give ‘Ethereal Techno’ its name. 

The EP begins with “India”, a steadily evolving track which pairs delicate synths with a compelling rhythm that ebbs and flows. “Color Of Birds” follows, adding a darker and more dynamic element. Multiple layers interact with effects that add intensity to the bass, while maintaining melodies in the higher layers. The third track, “Endless Memory”, takes a more delicate approach. EarthLife take time to create space in this track with a delicate intro, and only minimal synths, letting the production speak for itself. “Horus” closes out the EP, taking the minimal tone of the previous track and evolving these themes to a finale that speaks directly to Ethereal Techno fans.  

Overall EarthLife deliver a compelling EP which shows a mastery of tones – the first two tracks focus more on a dancefloor-friendly side of techno, while the second half of the EP brings the delicacy and minimalism. It’s an exciting release for the duo, with hopefully many more to come.

Ashkan Dian, widely known by his stage name Ashkan, is a house and techno DJ/producer based in Toronto. Since 2019, he has cultivated a substantial fan base in Toronto, Canada. In 2017, he won the Best Oriental Electronic Music award from Enmoda Magazine in Cyprus. His tracks have been supported by many notable DJs, including Black Coffee, Gabriel & Dresden, Jan Blomqvist, Zamna Sound System, Øostil, and Space Motion, who have praised him as a creative and talented producer.

Growing Up Under Restrictions In Tehran, Iran, Ashkan Was Surrounded By An Electronic Music Scene That Spanned From The Middle East To Europe.
