Welcome to episode #112 - Pattrn

Sonic experiments derived from syncopated rhythms, intricately crafted ambiences, and patiently evolving textures, Pattrn’s work as a producer is rooted to the perception of time and space. Playing violin since the age of four and later on majoring in both acousmatic music composition and sound engineering, Pattrn’s precision is the fruit of a lifelong dedication to music of all forms, from creation in itself or through his implications in Brussels’ scene. 

Beyond the years of technical know-how and self improvement in production, DJing, and live sets,  Brice Deloose aka Pattrn has been an active member of the local scene for quite some time. Co-creator of FTRSND, Brussels By Night Federation, @initiate_concept , as well as having been the artistic director of @fuse-club , Pattrn has spent much of his time promoting local artists and collectives to push forward Brussels' underground. 

Having shared the decks with the likes of @luke-slater , @luigitozzi , @claudioprc , @kangding-ray , @svrecaofficial , and many more, Pattrn uses his sets to impose his world of seamless hypnotic music to lure passionates for always one last dance.

His musical work explores the intersection of energy and emotion, carefully crafting moments of unity on the dance floor. This mix showcases Hame’s unique talent for blending vibrant energy with heartfelt expression, making it a truly compelling addition to your listening experience. He approaches this set much like movie soundtrack, crafting a narrative with different chapters that, while distinct, come together seamlessly to create a captivating and immersive journey.

"The set ends with a track I made, built around words by Teig Sadhana about the vulnerability of men. It’s a subject that comes up often in my work as an applied psychologist, especially in conversations with boys and young men. Some carry unspoken thoughts - like feeling content with the idea of becoming a stay-at-home dad, or not pursuing traditional career ambitions. Sometimes about smaller subjects, like asking for help. Many describe pressure from society, or a lack of support from peers, when it comes to embracing less conventional paths.

I believe there’s a lot to gain, as a society, if men feel freer to speak about these thoughts. If being loved and respected is tied in the mind to career success, self-reliance and emotional toughness, it becomes difficult to let go of that framework. Historically, this mindset has been rewarded with status and security - but that doesn’t mean it’s something healthy for everyone to continue striving for.

We’re often comfortable talking about ambition, strength, and problem-solving - traits we’ve learned to view as charismatic or positive. But many of us were never taught how to speak openly about things that might be seen as weak or uncertain.

And yet, isn’t it one of the braver things - to show vulnerability in the face of discomfort or fear? Toughness can serve many purposes, but I think a more open and compassionate attitude among men toward vulnerability can help us become less protective of what’s been built in the world and in our minds, creating more space for everyone in society."

Let’s go out with a bang for this last transmission of the season. As my services are requested elsewhere for this show, I have dug up a special treat. Recorded at exactly the same time last year @ Point FMR, this set from the Supercamp Off literally blew the roof offf. However, let’s say it was just a warm-up to something special that happened in the same place a few weeks ago, which will be shared with you soon. For those drawn to ambient terrains, the name Francesco Piunti will likely already be familiar. Our first encounter with his mixes came some years ago - emerging through the well known Campfire Stories on Silent Season, then later well crafted excursions thru the likes of Oslated, Delayed, Deep Electronics, and Moon Garden Records not to forget his tireless work in hosting the Deep Breakfast Series (https://soundcloud.com/deepbreakfastseries)

In response to MB’s recent 314 mix https://soundcloud.com/deepbreakfastseries/314-m-baumann, Francesco has returned serve with a contemplative two-hour drift - tracing ambient space, dub techno, with a delicate dusting of float house.  A thoughtful transmission from a selector deeply connected to his craft.

Darth Vicious es el aka tras el que se esconde Óscar Villares, autóctono del Órbigo. Tras explorar durante años diversos estilos musicales con este seudónimo, encuentra finalmente su sitio fusionando EBM, Industrial, Techno y un toque de Post Punk con una fuerza arrolladora, pero sin olvidarse de la elegancia que le caracteriza.
Óscar ha desarrollado en su formación como ingeniero industrial la misma precisión que ahora aplica en sus sets y su música, profundamente influenciada por sellos como Persephonic Sirens, Detriti, Bombtrap o Soil Records entre otros,combina potencia y atmósferas densas, creando experiencias que trasportan al oyente al lugar de origen del artista: una estepa arcillosa con un fondo industrial perfilado por La Azucarera de Veguellina.

For Mix 23 we welcome the talented Ebende, a DJ and producer from Sweden. His unique sound fuses bass-driven beats with immersive, hazy atmospheres and soundscapes. Raised in a musical family, his early exposure to a wide range of sounds shaped his intuitive understanding of melody, rhythm, and texture. His passion for making music quickly developed, and he found his voice in blending the familiar with the abstract. He has released on Aniara Recordings, All My Thoughts, ARKAJO & DSSPR to name a few as well as several self-released records that reflect his restless creativity.Ever since his fresh release on Aniara Records and witnessing his incredible late afternoon set at Above Below festival in 2024 I had to have him join the Cozi community! His style is effortlessly groovy which is so surprise in this mix where he creates a flow and energy like no other.... 

Cozi Questions......

1. How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing?
Initially I’d say my dad got me into producing since he introduced me to logic & garage band when I was 5-6 years old so I’ve been playing around with it for a very long time. I’ve been into electronic music for a long time too but what really got me into weirder, more underground dance music was going to raves and open airs around Gothenburg as a teenager which inspired me to start producing that type of music. It then felt natural to start DJing aswell.

2. Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why?
Definitely my first ever gig at Øen in Copenhagen in 2017. It’s a super small & cozy venue. The people & vibe was something else, I had such a great time playing there.
 
3. Do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert in the scene?
Definitely an introvert haha. Although I love connecting with people through music I find it very draining to be social, so networking is a huge challenge for me. I prefer to stay at home and just make music in solitude which is what I do most of the time. I really have to make an effort to not isolate too much.


4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?
Boards of Canada - Seven Forty Seven.

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? Do you have any special remedies/ mental/physical prep/ places to go to? :)
I’m always trying to find new stuff to play, then I just play around in rekordbox for a bit to see what works and what I can do with what I have but I never plan out exactly what I’m gonna play. When it comes to production I just try to play around with some sounds every day. When I’m stuck working on a track & need inspiration I go for long walks around Gothenburg, I get a lot of inspiration from the atmosphere & nature here.

As If. No Mixtapes! Vol. 3 : Audio Visuals Atmosphere

Volume 4 of our As If. No Mixtapes! series we sought out KP Transmission. Her exploration of a wide range of genres is unique. With viscerally provocative dark, unusual soundscapes, paired with unsettling rhythms and experimental bass, she relinquishes her inner punk, which she also lets out through her band Fanny Kaplan. Independently releasing a vast array of tracks via her Soundcloud and Bandcamp pages, along with limited cassettes, vinyl, and digital releases via Klammlang Tapes, Nanzlo Records and Ciel Blue et Petis Oiseax Records, KP Transmission captures the rawness of experimental music, in a confident manner that creates what we could call her own sub genres.
