@benkaczor out of Basel, Switzerland is a riveting ambient / techno producer who has his hand in a variety of different projects that have caught my attention over the years. He releases music regularly from a number of these projects as well as other Swiss artists on his own platform KCZ / CZT (benkaczor.bandcamp.com/music). The label showcases a really nice contrast between his ambient releases (CZT) & his techno releases (KCZ) - a lot of which have ended up in a bunch of my mixes & DJ sets over the years. He also has a project called Tarik Hensen (benkaczor.bandcamp.com/album/tarik-hensen-saknar-a-nde-ep) with Swedish producer Martinou which consists of a tough, gritty, moody techno that is a really nice blend of each of their sounds. Ben has such a breadth of music knowledge across the worlds of techno & ambient music - everything he puts out surprises me & I constantly find myself in awe of his releases & mixes. ReKaB
Growing up listening to electronic music being played by his big brother in their shared bedroom, Yazoo, Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode and Acid House soon found its way through the speakers.
Heavily influenced by Kraftwerk, B12, R&S, As One, those early Warp releases, and a love of Detroit techno, it was invertible the leap into production would be made.
A 2019 debut on Where We Met, and further releases on We’re Going Deep, Móatún 7, Intellitronic Bubble, Fourier Transform, ReKabs music is intelligent and effortlessly deep.


Miles Atmospheric
One of the true unsung heroes of UK techno, Miles Sagnia aka Miles Atmospheric, is as much a mesmerising presence behind the DJ booth as he is in the studio. Through his richly emotive releases, he weaves seamless stories out of the deepest house or the most spacious techno. He is equally at home going deep on his own Atmospheric Existence label or sending out uniquely soulful techno missives for labels such as Applied Rhythmic Technology, Firescope or Detroit's Aesthetic Audio. Last year he released Miles Away on Chicago's Finale Sessions, his second double long-player and the follow-up to his 2014 debut LP – Aeration. This year he debuts another new alias 'Quadra', with close friend Charlie Tear, a LIVE duo / production outfit.
As a DJ for over 20 years, Miles enjoys a dedicated following no matter whether he is delivering sets of muscular late night techno, or feel-good Sunday-afternoon house. Given the choice, he will straddle the divide to create something unpredictable yet hypnotic, laced with as much energy as there is soul. From London to Paris to Shanghai, he cuts a unique presence in the Dj booth.

This is the third installment of the @fromalostplace charity compilation, a gathering of 20 artists who have contributed their sonic vision in order to relief these hard times where some people still survive on fear, hostility and indifference in Colombia.

Money raised will go to help the Fundación Rediseñandonos located in Bogotá, which works for the reintegration of homeless people through needlework. another part goes to indigenous organizations in defense of life and care of the environment in Cauca region.

A Small Range Only

Iceland's Thule offshoot label 66 Degrees was a vital label back in the day. After a 20-year hiatus, it came back strong in August and now follows up quickly with a second superb EP. This one is a carefully curated various artists collection that pulls together some local house anthems new and old. Ozy's 'Sequential Dub' is a super smooth deep house number with lush chord work. Sanasol brings heavier, more raw house drums and grinding bass that will get floors in a sweat. Oz Artists mixes up a raw, mechanical groove with balmy, dreamy pads up top to make for something utterly compelling on 'Atomox; while last of all Terry Cummingz pays homage to dusty Windy City house on his perfectly lo-fi 'Cherry Bon Bon. Classy business for sure.

On his third and album, Rainbow Doll, the New Jersey house mystic Joey Anderson speaks to us. Of course, like everything Anderson does, the message is encoded. On tracks like "Beside Me" and "Cindy," his voice rings out in dream incantations—on the latter, he repeats a Mark Hollis-like mantra over a perfect, minimalist house loop while the former sounds like the late, great Ron Hardy taking the razor-and-tape to Ike Yard.

It's his third record for the Berlin-based label Avenue 66, and graciously illuminates the dream logic introduced on his debut for the imprint, the 2013 leftfield classic "Above The Cherry Moon." While Rainbow Doll satisfies those outre impulses, the album's core comprises what are perhaps Anderson's most indelible dance tracks to date, like "Bounce With It," a jacking anthem which sees him at mission control, sending widescreen synth lines soaring through the atmosphere.

With the aforementioned vocals punctuating five of the eight tracks, Rainbow Doll is Anderson's most personal work to date. It's his first album in four years, but also his shortest, most concise full-length. Even with a more direct approach, the elusive, dreamlike quality which has made his work so intriguing remains intact. He speaks of dreams throughout the record, even as his uncanny methodology comes into focus. More than ever before, we understand the materials Anderson uses to construct his Escher-like tracks. We hear his fingers on the keys, the sturdy east coast house beats he learned to dance to. The dreams have become lucid. As he puts it deep in the album, they "seem so real.”
