Show Love: August 2016

UK-based Nang presents Disco legend Rayko latest album, due for release on the 31st of March 2014 on vinyl and digitally. 

Nang has been releasing quality Disco since its inception, dropping tracks from the likes of Martin Brodin, Tensnake, Daniele Baldelli, Brioski, Toby Tobias and with an incredible list of remix artists such as Luke Solomon, Andrew Weatherall and Lindstrom amongst other. This spring they are delivering Disco visionary Rayko's latest album Rebirth which follows Rayko's latest single, Rusos Theme on the Uk-based imprint. 

The LP comprises 10 forward thinking disco tracks and it opens with Balearic Intro, which is a slow tempo moody disco tune, guided by an almost talking guitar solo. The second track The Cave is clearly influenced by 80s synth rock while Time And Space is more a deep club focused tune. The fourth cut Nightlogy is a perfect example of how Rayko can revitalise dated sounds and give them new shine, adding on top of the tune a soulful vocal. This last cut is on par with Rusos Theme, a more pop oriented track driven by the hypnotic male voice that repeats "I'm gonna make you love me.", quite a clear mission statement!

The LPs title track merges acid synth lines with a relentless groove and its a strong dancefloor focused track. He Came From The Space is an uplifting funky tune, while Dreamer is a more groovy synth driven tune with a cheeky vibe to it. The last 2 tracks are the perfect ending for the album: Warhammer is a slow moody cut while the closing tune Goodbye Baby is a proper club track, in which a funky slapped bass line is combined with guitar riffs and a long ethereal pad, it rounds off the release perfectly and feels like the end of the show.

Spain's Rayko latest LP Rebirth is due for release on the 12th of May: keep your eyes out all Disco heads.

Nigel Hemmye (Nydge) and Joe Hertler had never worked together before Nigel brought Joe through Assemble Sound late on a Friday night a few months ago. Flint Eastwood was in the studio, and the three of them decided to sit down and write a song together. This is what came out.

Politics, the news, senseless deaths... got me feelin' pretty helpless recently. I wrote Can't Hold Me Down as a piece of motivation for those who are feelin' down and struggling in their lives. 

I saw a live performance video of Tash Neal (from The London Souls) playing and knew instantly we had to work together. I wrote the demo and sent it his way. What I got back was magic. Tash is perfect on this tune. 

Don't curse the darkness, be a light. Be the force that pushes others to keep their heads high and stay inspired. Stand up for what you believe in at all costs. Never give up on people.

Can't Hold Me Down (ft. Tash Neal of The London Souls)

No Apologies - this song came together from the NY sessions i was preparing for. I had a friend help write the lyrics and vocal melody and we had our good friend Natalie Cressman sing the tune. Not only is Natalie an incredible singer, she is mostly known as one of the top trombone players in the world and is a huge talent in her own right. We love the groove and the funky drop in this tune so much!

Juno Review: 

Not a week goes by without a new Rayko release dropping, making him the disco edit scene's version of Marco Dionigi, a man who finishes an album on average every 13 seconds. Dragon Soul, though, is the Spanish re-edit king's first full-length. It rather surprisingly hangs together well as an album, offering a typically dubbed-out mix of sparkling boogie, comfy deep house and, of course, cheeky disco. Highlights wise, there's plenty to excite, from an excellent re-dub of D-Train and the sweaty disco of "Love Wars", to the oh-so-sensual "Conscious Of My Love" and the jazzy gorgeousness of "You're No Better Than A Common Thief".

Turntable Lab review: 

Stellar FULL LENGTH of edits and reworks from spanish boogie expert Rayko 

When it comes to disco and boogie edits this dude's work is top notch, and on Dragon Soul we are treated to a gang of cuts that'll work the floor over and then some. Obviously selection plays an important part in any good edit, and Rayko picks the jams ranging from sexy disco funk (Sumy's "Funkin In Your Mind") and party starting italo (K.I.D.'s "Come And Get It") to slept-on garage style classics (D-Train's "Keep Giving Me Love") and deep burning 80's r&b (Womack & Womack "Conscious of My Conscious" and "Love Wars"). All edits are done tastefully with much respect to the original and enough added punch to move the modern dancefloor. Also includes a killer edit of Final Edition's "I Can Do It Anyway" as used for A-Trak and Armand's "aNYway". 8 tracks over double vinyl from Glenview Records. Recommended.

Piccadilly Records Review: 

Glenview Records follows up their Onur Engin album with this full length from Spanish edit sensation Rayko (from Gran Canaria says our Spanish edit customer Silvestre). Spread over two fat sides of wax (or one CD) he reworks classic disco, boogie and funk tracks from Womack & Womack, Joe Coleman, D-Train, Bill House, Final Edition, KID and more. A bassline fattened here, an effect added there, a loop cut and pasted over here... Hot disco edits from a man at the top of his game right now.
