Thanks for sharing. As a white male, an alumnus and a staff member, it is really needed to have this conversation, and we as an institution need to listen to you more and do more. (btw, teachers get names wrong ALL the time with everyone trust me I know XD but it is obviously not ok that you are so "used" and "conditioned" by society (i.e. white) to think that race plays a role in this, and it really sucks!)

I remember when I was training, the dance history course only had 1 class on the contribution of black people in dance (which already is a bit of a joke), then the class did not happen (I think the teacher was sick or something) and that class was then never held...this was in 2011/12. Even as a white person I genuinely thought it was ridiculous, I brought it up but apparently very little has changed...!

I'm really grateful I got to listen this (and hopefully the next ones too!). As an alumni it makes me sad and angry. But also hopeful for you holding places to account and making a space to talk about this. As a lecturer it's a great tool for highlighting how easy it is to marginalise unintentionally. It's also something great to share with my own students explaining institutional racism.
