Taylor Bennett has created quite a buzz over the past six months. The 18-year-old recent high school graduate is the younger brother of Chance The Rapper, and has gone about carving out his own lane in the ever-increasing shadow of his big bro. Taylor has successfully created a brand unto himself while selling out three consecutive headlining shows in his hometown (twice at Reggie's & once at Lincoln Hall). He just recently performed at the House of Blues, opening for Vic Mensa and Nas as part of an official after-party for the annual festival, "Lollapalooza." Also, Taylor has supported YG & Curren$y's sold out shows at Metro in Chicago this year.

His project, Mainstream Music, released on May 4th is a talented, well-put-together project that spans several sounds and essentially did what Common attempted on Nobody's Smiling before he had a chance to pull together different sides and sounds of Chicago. Having done tracks with King Louie, Lil Herb, Spenzo, Rockie Fresh and many more, Taylor is spreading his voice around the city and recently appeared on the cover of The Chicago Reader as one of the leaders of the next crop of young talent to come from the city. Expect to see him in a city near you this fall.

tied in the middle of a rope, without access to the ends. 

Scrimshire’s highly anticipated third opus, “Bight”, exemplifies progressions made both as a singer-songwriter and producer, pushing forward from his acclaimed second album, “The Hollow”. It’s an album replete with references to one man’s love for the deep blue sea, songs about being adrift and conversely “Beached”.

Once again Scrimshire has hooked up with two of his favourite vocalists, Resonators front woman Faye Houston and long-time collaborator Stac, but it’s on this album that his voice really comes into its own. Scrimshire himself takes centre stage on vocal duties on the current single, “Convergent”, the melancholic “Drift” and haunting “Siren”, as well as dueting with Stac on the captivating “Beached” and with Faye on the rousing “Blister”.

It’s not only on the microphone that Scrimshire has raised the bar though – he single-handedly produced the whole album with a more electronic feel, touching on ambient and more dance floor sounds whilst still keeping in line with his soul , jazz and acoustic roots.

“Bight” will be launched live at The Old Queen’s Head, Islington on June 6th, followed by a mini UK tour and a host of festivals, including Soundwave Croatia and the Southern Soul Festival, Montenegro.

Asthmatic Kitty Records is an independent record label that was co-founded by Lowell Brams and his stepson, singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens, in 1999. Since its founding, AKR has released albums by a variety of artists, including Lily & Madeleine, My Brightest Diamond and Helado Negro, and is currently home to Sufjan Stevens, Angelo De Augustine, Denison Witmer and The Welcome Wagon. 

Asthmatic Kitty was named after Sara, an orange and white tabby who wandered out of the woods pregnant and starving near Holland, Michigan in 1994. For fourteen years she brought joy as a beloved friend to Lowell, enjoying a happy life despite her initial hardships. Her asthma improved after moving west to New Mexico and Wyoming, where she lived out her days as an asthmatic kitty in name only.
