On Approaching The Strange Museum

I decided to create a small photo series of my cloud observation that I did in the mountains recently. The often ghostly pictures appeared due to an extremely cold and rainy weather period although it was meteorological midsummer. These stills have been taken in various locations on the Tyrolean Alps.

Cloud Observation describes my mood whilst observing clouds - it reflects the impression of looking at the steadily moving sculptures that are formed by temperature, wind layers and the cliffs that collaborate perfectly and shift the clouds slowly and gracefully. The (partly processed) string-based composition is an excerpt of a piece for one of my future releases that I’m currently working on.

Fol Chen has joined forces with Monome and Machine Project to bring you the Tetrafol.

The Tetrafol is a hand-held tangible electronic sound toy. Circuits enclosed by a wooden tetrahedron detect orientation and motion-gestures to modify the playback of a collection of Fol Chen's micro-compositions, allowing the user to explore sound through physical manipulation.

The battery-powered device has its own internal speaker but can additionally be hooked up to a headphone or amplifier.

The circuit and firmware are based on open-source hardware and is itself published as open-source, allowing anyone interested to learn about its deepest inner-workings.

"Currently putting the final touches on their 2nd EP, Sydney duo What So Not are teasing us with new sounds by uploaded a previously un-realised remix of Kimbra, A-Trak & Mark Foster’s collaborative track, ‘Warrior’.

Made up of Flume and Emoh Instead, What So Not are getting a lot of global hype via their remixes of Van She, Major Lazer and Parachute Youth.

Their ‘Warrior’ remix sits at around 110 bpms, blurring between trap, dubstep and moobahton sounds. The song heaves with bass, while still highlighting the infectious Kimbra and Foster topline patterns. Oh and the drop? Dope.  

Touring the country earlier this year as part of the National House Party tour alongside Deacon Rose, Beni, Flume (live) and myself, I can personally back their hype.

Asthmatic Kitty Records is an independent record label that was co-founded by Lowell Brams and his stepson, singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens, in 1999. Since its founding, AKR has released albums by a variety of artists, including Lily & Madeleine, My Brightest Diamond and Helado Negro, and is currently home to Sufjan Stevens, Angelo De Augustine, Denison Witmer and The Welcome Wagon. 

Asthmatic Kitty was named after Sara, an orange and white tabby who wandered out of the woods pregnant and starving near Holland, Michigan in 1994. For fourteen years she brought joy as a beloved friend to Lowell, enjoying a happy life despite her initial hardships. Her asthma improved after moving west to New Mexico and Wyoming, where she lived out her days as an asthmatic kitty in name only.
