Asthmatic Kitty Records is an independent record label that was co-founded by Lowell Brams and his stepson, singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens, in 1999. Since its founding, AKR has released albums by a variety of artists, including Lily & Madeleine, My Brightest Diamond and Helado Negro, and is currently home to Sufjan Stevens, Angelo De Augustine, Denison Witmer and The Welcome Wagon. 

Asthmatic Kitty was named after Sara, an orange and white tabby who wandered out of the woods pregnant and starving near Holland, Michigan in 1994. For fourteen years she brought joy as a beloved friend to Lowell, enjoying a happy life despite her initial hardships. Her asthma improved after moving west to New Mexico and Wyoming, where she lived out her days as an asthmatic kitty in name only.

Long ago, a strange and mysterious character entered our world. Noone knows where he came from, or where exactly he’s going, but his sonic frequencies quickly caught the attention of those around him. 

Known only as Psion, he traverses the stars, weaving a dream of cosmic proportions inspired by the order and chaos of the universe. 
Filled will all the colours of the waking world, he pours his heart and soul into this magnum opus, a vibrational spell that will open a gateway into the unknown, a portal to a place unlike any other.

Thus far we have only seen glimpses of what lies beyond the threshold, a swirling plane of consciousness and convergence.
A cosmic soup of existence. 
Of transcendence. 
Of enlightenment.

Those who dare may enter the vortex and surrender themselves to the unknown.
