Few shows have lingered in the hearts and minds of 80s kids as much as the classic martial arts
fantasy epic Monkey (Saiyūki), and its theme song is instantly recognisable. Monkey Magic was
recorded by Godiego and released in 1978 and became an international hit. It tells the story of how
the Monkey King (Sun Wukong) angered the Gods before being punished setting the stage for the
story told in the series (based on the 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West)
