Peter Michael Hamel emerged from the 70s Krautrock scene dreaming of “the blue flower growing between the milestones on the road to a future world-music”. A truly visionary artist who worked and studied with John Cage, Morton Feldman and Terry Riley, his 1980 Colours of Time LP - an epic, sprawling, 22-minute saga - was hailed by The Guardian’s Rob Fitzpatrick as “an absolute masterpiece of skull-bursting, synth-led ambient minimalism”. Thirty six years on, Astral Industries reinterpret Hamel's original vision with remixes from two contemporary heavyweights - Wolfgang Voigt and Rod Modell (aka Deepchord). Each expansive interpretation invites you to step outside of reality and into an alternative imagination of Hamel's future world, spiralling into the colours and slowly out of time itself. Original artwork by Theo Ellsworth and a massive thanks to Peter Michael Hamel & Eckart Rahn.

The material collated on this third release from Heavenly Music Corporation was composed specifically for St. Giga in Japan, a satellite broadcast radio station transmitting ethereal audio harmony 24 hours a day. What made this station otherworldly was its programming; motivated by tidal movements, the aquatic ebbs and flows of each day synchronised to the activity and intensity of the music broadcast.

Produced using nothing but vintage analog equipment : Roland Space Echo, Echoplex, Korg tape delay, vintage signal processors, noise generators, Sequential Circuits 8 bit samplers & numerous analog synthesizers - this project goes back to the heady days of Berlin-based proto dub/techno variations, recorded and produced in Detroit and Chicago. Three of the worlds most important Techno cities colliding to form a whole that perfectly bridges the gap between The Motor City's emotive arrangements, The Windy city's percussive robustness, and Berlin's life-altering Basic Channel continuum.

Mysteries of the Deep is delighted to present its second album by Portland, Oregon-based musician and multimedia artist William Selman (@wselman), entitled “Naming Before Names.” In a world that demands categorization of everything around us through taxonomies, genres, and strict schemas, Selman’s album aims to explore the spaces between categories. His goal is not to offer concrete explanatory gestures, but rather, to create a deliberate space for suspension and ambiguity. These eight compositions conjure a world in which humans are asked to stand on the periphery, observing their surroundings from a vantage of curious wonder, rather than clear definition.

Selman draws from distinct sonic realms, however, citing David Berhman, Maggi Payne, and Alvin Curran as influences. He says, “I like the way these artists use simple forms to ground dense compositions with an approach to composition that is improvisational and collage-like.” In line with this sentiment, the album’s quality is uncannily natural. Many of Selman’s field recordings, collected over a twenty-year period, find a home here, adorning a landscape that’s as visual as it is sonic; we hear hydrophone recordings of tide pools and summer lagoons, grasshopper wings in a lava field, broken humidifiers and sandstorms alongside moments of intentional instrumentation. Light vibraphone gives way to slow hand drum movements. Textured synths add viscosity without extracting us from the ecological world. It feels inaccurate to say the album’s occasional rhythms are constructed; rather, patterns seem to arise organically out of the aether. In Selman’s universe, there’s a sense that everything exists in primordial unity, untouched by the human imprint that insists on fragmenting the world into recognizable parts.
