MONTAGEM KOLD IRAN

The latest Métron Musik Mixtape is something of an unusual treat. Not much is known or written of UK based artist Ishq, and fittingly his music is as hard to pin down as the artist himself. It’s therefore an honour that he was willing to provide us with this mixtape, a 90 minute exploration of unexplored aural pastures - showcasing old and new music from the mysterious producers wonderfully rich and beautiful discography. Within it Matt Hillier spans the depths of planetary oceans, searches the far reaching vacuums of the cosmos and prods at rarely accessed parts of our own reality.

‘Ishq’ roughly translates as ‘love’ but the word is used in Persian and Arabic literature with a broader definition, a relationship between man and its creator. There’s a sense of the divine and spiritual in the 90 minutes of music here. The Cornwall based producer taps into something seemingly larger and more cinematic than our every day existence. Somewhere out there that we kind of know but rarely visit. 

Turn it up, close your eyes, and explore his world.

Dedicated to the life and work of Robert Lax (1915-2000), the American poet who lived on Patmos, Greece, as a self-exiled hermit since the sixties. Jack Kerouac called Lax “one of the great original voices of our times, a Pilgrim in search of beautiful innocence”. The Chi Factory would like to give special thanks to his good Patmian friends Ulf Knaus and Nikos Eliou, who showed us his house on Patmos (everything is still the same since he left) and also his favourite old wooden door (see leaflet). His great minimalistic poetry became a source of inspiration for the Mantra Recordings. His life on Patmos was far away from public attention - quiet and always surrounded by the skies, seas, cats and birds. Lax was a real dreamcatcher.

J.Derwort (15/07/1952 - 11/02/2019) left all his flutes, old guitars, strange percussion and some weird found objects at the Chi Factory studio. Hanyo van Oosterom went back to Patmos in April 2019 to visit all the magic places where Chi once started. He recorded the basics for ‘Travel in Peace’. Playing and recording these handmade bamboo flutes without the master himself being there was a lonely and emotional journey. But along the way the magic connection returned and the last Chi Factory album was born. On ‘Santa Fe’ and ‘Last Breath’ samples were used of J.Derwort during his last weeks in Santa Fe, Spain. The Chi circle is now closed. Chi Factory will move on as ‘Sons of Chi’. A new platform for different collabs and new adventures in sound. The legacy will live on, so will we.

Hanyo: As J.Derwort explained by a dream he is now in a wonderful place far away and still so close. The dream came during the recordings when I asked him how he is and where he is. I saw beautiful and ever changing constructions of plants. Nothing else. No words and just a simple explanation: everything is created and connected by intuitive vegetable intelligence. The opening piece ‘Bless You’ is the last track I recorded, it reflects the memory of my dream the most. I almost decided to start all over again, but I did not. Hope you like the last Chi Factory album, thx for all your support, also to my good friend and soul brother J.Derwort this meant a lot. One love!

Watching diverging circles on the water arising from a thrown stone, I really wanted that answer to the question about superpowers wouldn't be just a dream, but in fact, would be possible to move on the line of time...Once again I was prompted by the thoughts what are appeared literally a few minutes earlier: there was a piece from a mosaic of memory, which was an experience from childhood...In it, I played in the garden and could completely feel a perception of reality...The space was light, fresh, and the mind did not know this program-language, which prescribes some kind of semantic code...

Walking along the overgrown path...For some reason, people forgot about it, apparently, they don’t need this experience anymore - it seems like they have more important things to do...On the right is a river that somehow miraculously penetrates, repeating all the bends of the circulatory system...And it also has a heart and it does not let to stop, die...
So funny that it’s enough for a day, rather, a couple of hours to be here and realize how much of everything city’s life took from us, like this notorious code, making changes at almost every moment of life...

The sunset burned the rest with a red flame, turning into a bonfire, and like thousands of years ago, it did not lose attractive power...The longer I watched this flame game, the more I saw: space is spinning on itself and as soon as my mind fixed this spectrum an energetical image of the planet appeared...Symbolically burning, she sent signals from the past, beautiful and horrible stages development of mankind, bringing them to the peak...
Everything disappeared, leaving behind itself only embers...Flickering they, reminded that the flame could flare up at any moment, but if you direct the necessary efforts for this...And that's why humans of the present can become humans of the future, by realizing their strengths and uniting intentions to manifest the actions...

Ishtadi means purification of the senses in Sanskrit;
The prerequisite of being absorbed in presence.

Performing live, Ishtadi conjures intricately interweaving sound textures, in the form of electronic productions made from his recordings of nature, real instruments and places, meanwhile playing ancient instruments like Didgeridoo, Ngoni, Drums and Spirit Flute.
It’s a unique improvised journey inviting the body and mind to enter slower brainwave frequencies, allowing for the listener easily to dive deep - into the now.

"At Move Copenhagen Festival it's about moving.  But sometimes we need to relax too.
Finishing the workshops before lunch, our Nature Tales Chill Out tent got crowded with people on top of eachother, taking that moment.
Integrating and digesting.
It seemed like the air was thick like butter, sparkles flying around and the sun shining bright. I don’t know where exactly I went, when playing the Ngoni, but somewhere beyond indeed."
