For the next instalment of the series I present a winding, evocative mix from Avsluta. I first came across Avsluta's sound through her mix for Rapture Network's 9128.live takeover (https://soundcloud.com/rapturenetwork/avsluta-9128live-15-may-2021) and after listening to more of her mixes for her own ambient-based platform @introspective_electronics, I hit her up for a Deep Mind Music entry. 

Avlsuta's sound is highly immersive: her mix for the series takes listeners through winding cerebral sounds, each track building upon the last, slowly unfolding into a vast expanse of sound. To me it feels like floating in the middle of a still lake at night, looking up at the twinkling stars and crescent moon, adrift and contemplative. We are then washed up onto the shore with trippy bubbling beats, before the mix gently peters out in a blanket of golden warmth. I hope you enjoy listening to this trip as much as I do.

The 7th instalment of our In:Focus Series places the spotlight on a very specific point in time - The Early Deepchord records years.

In the late 1990s the Deepchord record label was co-founded by Rod Modell & Mike Schommer in Detroit, Michigan. After just four years and achieving far more success than initially anticipated, DeepChord Records wound down operations. For this In Focus we want to concentrate specifically on the work that Rod and Mike did before they disbanded.

Across the Dub Techno scene the name Deepchord carries the highest of gravitas. Elite level quality, and considered by many to be, alongside Basic Channel, the blueprint of the genre.

So much has been written about Deepchord over the years, and we're not here to repeat what's been said (you can check out a great interview with Mike from a few years ago here - inn8.net/interview-with-mike-schommer-deepchord/ ), we're here to celebrate the music and we hope that through this session we have done that.

Embodying a profound and instinctual allure, Javier Salazar (@javrsalazar) remains an enigmatic force in the contemporary music landscape. Founders of klape nunsen (@klapenunsen), their sound is characterized by elegant and soaring rhythms creating immersion through a continued dedication to diversifying their selection, blending genres and atmospheres. The two are also part of La Vallée Electrique (@Melifera_Records) in which they shape a cohesive whole among the artists of the festival. Records from the duo are available on Oslated and their own imprint, drawing listeners into a smooth current of sounds.

For our next Unrush journey, we are pleased to welcome Moon Patrol, the duo based in New York, comprised of Irina Kotik and Gilles Wasserman. As the co-founders of the delayed platform and Never Late label, they’ve built one of our favourite go-to spaces for the deeper side of electronic music.

Our paths - in real life - first crossed at Mostra Festival in 2023, and it was one of those rare connections where you just know there’s much more to come. Moon Patrol’s vision, both as artists and curators, resonates deeply with Unrush’s ethos, and this podcast stands as a testament to their exquisite ear for relaxing, meditative music.

As with all my previous ‘Reflection’ year-end mixes, I begin with a collection of albums, EPs, and compilations that resonated with me over the past year. From there, I curate tracks to build the mix—a process that’s as much about omission as inclusion. Inevitably, many of my favorite tracks and albums don’t make the final cut, simply because they don’t fit the flow of the mix or get lost along the way. There are plenty of albums I played on repeat that aren’t included here, but I enjoy this process much more than creating lists. 

As I remind myself each year, this isn’t meant to be a definitive “best-of” list. Instead, it’s a snapshot of some of my favorite music from the year, distilled into one cohesive and listenable format. Compiling these mixes under self-imposed restrictions is my way of revisiting and celebrating the music I’ve loved critically, while sharing it with you in a way that’s both meaningful and accessible. For me, listening back to these mixes is like flipping through an audio photograph, capturing the essence of my year in music and invoking memories from special moments.

“With this mix I tried to find the deeper layer of certain tracks and not limit myself too much with different tempo’s ranges. If it fits the vibe and helping the flow, it’s probably the right spot.

Creating a mix is an interesting creative outlet to discovering new possibilities and refining the art of setting the tone. Balancing on that thin line with endless opportunities, reflects the perfect capture of the feeling and learnings of today.”

A Far Blue concept by Bas Dobbelaer - 'Echoes'

There’s something special about clicking with someone musically, aesthetically, and on a human level. That’s exactly how we feel about our collaboration with Mostra Festival, which is entering its third year. We’re thrilled to introduce some of the talent performing at the 2025 edition and to continue this creative exchange with our friends from Spain.

Mostra 2025 happens April 17-20 at two brand-new locations. With two waves of artists already announced, it’s clear that the high bar set by previous editions has once again been met. Expect the finest in ambient, experimental, avant-garde, and techno. The final wave of artists will be revealed tomorrow, February 12—keep an eye on the festival’s socials for the full announcement. More details on the lineup, new venues, and everything Mostra-related will be coming soon to our page.

Today’s guest mix comes from an artist we’ve been following closely: Mariachiara Troianiello, aka Katatonic Silentio. An Italian producer, DJ, and researcher, she moves between electronic music, performing arts, and sound studies, blending abstraction with club energy. Active as a DJ for over 15 years, her sets oscillate between an analog past and a fast-moving future—sometimes dreamy and introspective, other times razor-sharp and unpredictable.
This January, she was part of ExtraMostra event at Berlin’s OHM, where Mostra & Midgar joined forces. Alongside DjSport, Forest Drive West, Keplrr, and Severja, she delivered a mind-bending set in a packed-out club that couldn’t fit everyone who wanted in.

For her guest mix in our series, Katatonic Silentio explores dub techno in her own meticulous way—controlled, intentional, and always with a sense of movement. The first hour plays with restraint, each track given space to breathe, while subtle shifts build an unspoken tension. Just when you think you’ve settled into the groove, she nudges things into unexpected territory—tightening the pulse, throwing in off-kilter patterns, and steering toward a more kinetic, unpredictable second hour. It’s a mix that keeps you on your toes, unfolding with precision rather than force. A refined trip from an artist who never takes the obvious route.
