A Strangely Isolated Place proudly presents Mirror EP, the first label release from Hungarian electronic artist https://soundcloud.com/swanasa (A. Abigél Bánházi). Following her 2023 debut, When You Need to Rest, Let the Sounds Hold You, released on Budapest’s EXILES, Abigél’s Mirror EP serves as a captivating follow-up and a purposeful first introduction to the world of ASIP, showcasing her ability to bridge experimental sound design with hypnotic, meditative drones.

Mirror EP encompasses a diverse range of textures, from deeply immersive soundscapes to intricate rhythmic elements, reflecting swanasa's dedication to pushing the boundaries of ambient music, informed by the interplay of folk culture, Jungian psychology, and digital experimentation. Each composition is a seamless blend of synthetic and organic sounds, influenced by her connection to nature, creating an evocative experience that resonates with themes of ecological awareness and modern technology’s role in artistic expression.

Featuring rhythmic chanting and layered vocal samples that invoke a sense of ritual and deep introspection, washes of abstract sounds manipulated from the recordings of wolves, and mystical sounds straight from nature’s own. The EPs tracks highlight swanasa's exploration of sound as a symbolic language, inviting listeners into a world where the lines between reality and imagination blur.

swanasa's music is brought to life through her live performances, where Mirror EP and her previous material form the foundation for dynamic, meditative sets. Having performed alongside artists such as Abul Mogard, swanasa’s live shows emphasize deep listening and immersive sound environments, drawing audiences into her unique sonic world.

Mirror EP will be released on November 22nd, 2024, available as a digital download, mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri @ Black Knoll Studio, New York. The artwork, an original texture created by Zsuzsi Palman, continues the theme from Abigél’s first EP.

A Strangely Isolated Place presents a long-lost collaboration between Polish artists Olga Wojciechowska and Tomasz Walkiewicz as Monoparts—a partnership formed many years ago that resulted in an album once destined to remain unreleased.

Olga Wojciechowska, known for her modern-classical masterpieces such as Infinite Distances (2019) and Unseen Traces (2020), as well as her 2022 collaboration with Scanner, breaks all known expectations with Soothsayers. In a dramatic departure, Olga unveils a new and unexpected side, debuting her haunting vocals—a delicate, spellbinding performance that recalls the golden era of trip-hop, and comparisons to the sounds pioneered by Tricky, Massive Attack, and Martina Topley-Bird.

With Tomasz adding layers of depth through intricate beats and electronics, Olga’s voice becomes the emotional core of the record, conjuring an intimate and nostalgic atmosphere.

Following https://soundcloud.com/mikkel-rev's debut album on the label in 2023, ‘The Art Of Levitation’, the Norwegian artist returns with Journey Beyond, a selection of tracks demonstrating his innate ability to conjure the most atmospheric trance music, irrespective of BPM.

Journey Beyond was created from an extensive set of tracks sent to the label that were initially sequenced as two shorter EPs. With the first offering a slower 80bpm trance style, and the second EP, a classic ~130bpm trance style. However, over time, with tracks swapping in and out, ASIP had the idea to create a mixed version, progressing through the tracks and increasing bpm's, showcasing Mikkel’s ability in bridging euphoric worlds - and a style that is often reserved for Mikkel’s live performances amongst the forest raves held as part of the Ute Collective in Norway.

Classic trance and the art of a DJ mix have been influential to ASIP since the label’s inception, making this release and the process of creating it a true reflection of how Mikkel and the label come together to define the end output.

Their eighth album, and first for A Strangely Isolated Place, on Lemon Borealis, KILN expands upon the long-explored themes of mosaic texture, subtle melancholy, eroded consonance, and vivid cadence to reveal yet another aperture to their unique magnetic universe.

Already it was deep summer on roadhouse roofs and in front of wayside garages, where new red gas-pumps sat out in pools of light, and when I reached my estate at West Egg I ran the car under its shed and sat for a while on an abandoned grass roller in the yard. The wind had blown off, leaving a loud bright night with wings beating in the trees and a persistent organ sound as the full bellows of the earth blew the frogs full of life. The silhouette of a moving cat wavered across the moonlight and turning my head to watch it I saw that I was not alone—fifty feet away a figure had emerged from the shadow of my neighbor’s mansion and was standing with his hands in his pockets regarding the silver pepper of the stars. Something in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was XAMAN himself, come out to determine what share was his of our local heavens. I decided to call to him. Margarita had mentioned him at dinner, and that would do for an introduction. But I didn’t call to him for he gave a sudden 
intimation that he was content to be alone—he stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward—and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock. When I looked once more for Xaman he had vanished, and I was alone again in the unquiet darkness.

MFM: Hi Suso. You live in central Spain, right? How important is living there for you and your music?

S: I live in a little town not far away from Madrid. It’s very quiet and I’m in contact with nature. I feel good in the place where I live. My choice to live there is not arbitrary as I need peace and silence to work and this place meets all the conditions.

MFM: In 2019 we happily received and released your latest album Nothing is Objective where in the liner notes you say you never listen back to a finished piece of music. Why is that? Isn't that an important part of learning and progress?

S: Usually, I’m not so interested in the past. I prefer to live present time as deeply as possible and sometimes, to dream in the future as the child I was. Listening to my own work tends to be self-destructive as I’am aware of glitches that grow up as time goes by. Meanwhile, my pieces begin to move away from reality. My intention is to evolve continuously. I spend a long time working in them as to allow my “new self” (that appears as a result of my evolution) to destroy them.

MFM: Do you actively look for and listen to other people's music though? 

S: I’m a melomaniac before a musician. Listening to music is one of my greatest pleasures as well as an endless source of knowledge. My listening is very eclectic. You can find my inspiration in music and musicians as Miles Davis, Steve Reich, Ralph Towner, King Crimson, Mahler, African and Indonesian ethnic music, etc.  

MFM: Do you visualize an idea for a piece of music before you start writing it? Could give a bit insight in how you normally get to write a piece?

S: Musically, I always start with something that I hear inside my head: I cannot specify what it is. That’s the reason why I begin an experimental process that finishes when I synchronize what I hear inside me with the sounds I make.

MFM: Is there such a thing as a Suso state of being when writing music, to get to that "ingravidez"?

S: I usually work alone and at daytime. I try to use the night to sleep. My studio is a cozy place, where peace and quiet are essential to make my work. The “ingravidez” I talk about, is a result of the sound not of a state of mind. I try to set up sound capsules that generate such “ingravidez”, regardless of other conditions. 

MFM: You speak of music as being very spiritual, something that connects to the soul and transcends it's structures and textures. Has your disease played a role in this or did you always approach it that way? 

S: I have always tried to search my deepest self with my music. It’s possible that you find spirituality in that search. Things have not changed with my disease. 

MFM: About your last album you said “It is the most honest album that I have written in a long time. I feel it is honest with myself, as I feel a deep sense of acceptance with who I am and with what I do.” What did this do with your thoughts on any next project? Do you now maybe have a different view concerning collaborations vs. solo works? 

S: I try to make each work unique and although it belongs to a same lifeline, it’s not necessary that they refer to the same things. Obviously, if you collaborate with other artists your point of view changes as it goes through other person filter and your reactions will be upon impulses not generated by yourself. I always try that honesty is a constant that never should disappear from my music. I always try to sound as I am. Actually my intention is not to go to a fancy dress ball, although..”never say never again”..
