A Sine qua non nem zenekar, hanem zenei projekt, amely három tagból áll: Kontra Attila (dalszöveg), Árva Gábor (gitár, ének, billentyűk), Miklós István (dob, basszusgitár, billentyűk), további vendégzenészekkel és segítőtársakkal (Szabó Bálint, Szabó Péter, Varga Lilla, Varga Richárd, Árva András, Lengyel Attila, Berényi Gábor, Lénárd László, Berczelly Attila, Szűcs József) kiegészülve, akik a felvételek elkészítésében és rögzítésében közreműködnek.
A formáció 2012 januárjában jött létre, amikor elhatároztuk, hogy a már meglévő két Asia-átirat mellé, amelyeket a Mea Culpa együttes adott elő élőben, továbbiakat készítünk. Olyan előadók életművéből válogatva, mint Gary Moore, Talk Talk, Journey, Toto, GPS, Pet Shop Boys, Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode. Így született meg egy tribute-album ötlete, amely „fél-feldolgozásokat” tartalmaz, az eleve adott dallamokra írt magyar szövegek ugyanis részben vagy teljesen függetlenek az eredetiektől. 
Célunk, hogy a médiumok és a nagyközönség által kevésbé favorizált, rádiók által alig játszott dalok, amelyek zenei ízlésünk fejlődését alapvetően meghatározták, ismét némi figyelmet kapjanak, illetve e módon tisztelegjünk alkotóik előtt, akik bár főként a nyolcvanas-kilencvenes években élték fénykorukat, nekünk mai napig a legnagyobb kedvenceink. 
Szeretnénk leszögezni, hogy munkánknak semmi köze a manapság divatos 'retro' fogalmához, számunkra ugyanis ez elsősorban nem múltidézés, hanem egy azóta is változatlan életérzés betetőzése.

The Sine qua non is not a band, but it’s a musical project which contains three members: Attila Kontra (lyrics), Gábor Árva (guitar, vocals, keyboards), István Miklós (drums, bass, keyboards) with guest-musicians and helpmates (Bálint Szabó, Péter Szabó, Lilla Varga, Richárd Varga, András Árva, Attila Lengyel, Gábor Berényi, László Lénárd, Attila Berczelly, József Szűcs) who participate the preparing and recordings.
This formation came to be in January in 2012, when we decided to create more transliteration beside our available two Asia-transliterations which was performed live by the band Mea Culpa. We are selecting from kind of greatest artists’ life work such as Gary Moore, Talk Talk, Journey, Toto, GPS, Pet Shop Boys, Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode. In this way the idea of our tribute album has borned which contains ’half-work-ups’ because the Hungarian lyrics which were written to the basic tunes are partly or totally independent from the original ones.
Our aim is to manage to get the attention of the less favourite songs of the public, less broadcasted songs of the radio stations – which have basically defined our musical taste – and get some more attention again and that is the way we can salute their components. Though they have been living their hey-days mainly in the eighties, nineties still they are our greatest favourite ones of all time also today.
We would like to insist on the fact that our work has absolutely no connection with the fashionable ’retro’ style these days, namely it is not about last summons in the first row but the culmination of a changeless feeling and lifestyle which lasts ever since.
