Batavia Collective are a young and vibrant group of Jakarta-based musicians, combining a no-nonsense attitude with the sheer sophistication of jazz and soul.  With Doni Joesran on keys, Elfa Zulham on drums and Kenny Gabriel on synth bass, they offer refreshing and generous future jazz with a hard-hitting pulse and a message. 

‘Affirmation’ features vocals by Mohammed Kamga, who tops up the trio’s free-spirited sound with smooth and dynamic melodies.  Having been homegrown in the studio, Batavia Collective takes inspiration from Jakarta’s streets; born and raised in Indonesia’s capital, the trio’s gratitude towards their roots is echoed in everything they do.  Through this heartfelt approach, ‘Affirmation’ breathes spontaneity and joy in the process of creation; this is why their organic upbeat mixture is so cheerful in effect, infecting the body with a drum ‘n’ bass inspired pulse that will leave you eager to find out more.  They’re incredibly excited to release ‘Affirmation’ on R&S Records, from where they hope to charm and excite listeners everywhere.

With just two single releases under their belt to date, the Jakarta based trio Batavia Collective have made an instant splash on the music scene with their infectious brand of neo-jazz fuelled funk, finding a highly receptive audience in the process.

On their latest ‘BTVC’ EP, released on genre shifting Belgian label R&S Records, the collective return, this time coming heavy handed with four new instrumental pieces, each one brimming with mesmerising melodies and dramatic passages.

As on previous singles ‘Propulsion’ and ‘Affirmation’, Doni Joesran, Elfa Zulham and Kenny Gabriel continue to enthral with a level of musicianship and musical nuance that goes beyond words, as the seasoned players drill deep into the soul of the genre and peel off four stunning recordings with ease.

At pains to not be defined or pigeonholed, BTVC explain “we are often asked what kind of jazz this is.  To tell you the truth we don’t know. We don’t even know if our music can be considered jazz or not. We create the music through jamming, and afterwards, we vote on certain compositions together,” say the collective.  Who said modesty was dead!

Saad Elbaraka is a Moroccan composer, multilingual lyricist, and producer. Deeply shaped by his surroundings, he crafts a sound that merges indie rock, synth-wave, and alternative sonics. His music carries a sense of nostalgia while remaining rooted in the now. Over the years, he has performed widely across Morocco and beyond, with standout appearances at Boulevard Festival, MAA EL MOGHREB in Tunisia, and FACT Liverpool.

Signing off the show on a high note, Saad includes songs from his freshly self-released EP titled; “Music Inspired by Love, Nature and Memories” a project he describes as:

“Deeply personal, where past and present collide in a distinctive atmosphere. A reflection on the things that matter most in life, those elements that shape us, woven from memories and moments, with a sound that feels both timeless and contemporary.”

More than ten years deep in the craft, Cee ElAssaad has taken his sound to dance floors across the globe. What began as a passion in his bedroom evolved into a journey across the world. He's always had respect for the greats and has meticulously studied his profession to a near science. The artist cites Larry Levan, David Mancuso, Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles and François K as some of his biggest idols.

The young musician first got into music as a child. He would listen to a diverse range of genres and was enthralled by its ability to truly touch his soul. For him it's a way to express his deep innermost emotions for all the world to see. He's highly eclectic in his style, opting to blur the line between a large spectrum of different genres. He believes in creative freedom and hopes to bridge the gap between different types of music and bring his listeners on a journey through vibrant soundscapes and emotion-drenched feelings.
