Spotted by hardcore legends Marc Acardipane and Manu Le Malin, Cuften is one of the best guardians of the rave identity of these last years in France. Since 2017, he has been shaping an uncommon sound identity between electro, IDM, techno and rave that stands out with a 100% analog sound, anchored in the future, inspired by its precursors like DMX Krew, I-F or Legowelt.
After a remarkable debut on Tripalium or Minimum Syndicat, Cuften was opened the doors of the acclaimed label Planet Phuture - the first artist other than his creator to sign on the label - by the legend Marc Acardipane, on which he signed two EPs with artworks created by Number3, creator of the Aphex Twin logo. In only a few years, Cuften performed at such prestigious stages such as Transmusicales, Le Printemps de Bourges, Astropolis or Concrete / Dehors Brut, has been acclaimed by big medias like Tsugi or Radio Nova and is playlisted by Helena Hauff.

Nowadays, Cuften makes his arrival on Astropolis Records with "Animal Suicide", a 5-track EP on vinyl including a remix by Dutch pioneer Legowelt . Digital version includes a bonus remix by French producer Cate Hortl (best known to be half of Oktober Lieber).

"Heart Particles" calls out with a sharp contrast, with its soft voice and melody, as if the shuffle mode had landed us on an ambient record. The tempo increases progressively with an acid line and a slow and powerful rhythms, between the psychedelia of The Orb and Warp’s reveries of the 90's.

A dark and radical music produced in contrast to a sanitized and normalized era. Brigade Apache's First Album suggests a convincing alternative: bifurcation and dissidence. An abrasive and wild Sci-Fi space opera, unclassifiable Electro/Acid/New Beat/Post Punk, "Firefly" introduces the possibility of pogo on the dancefloor, through a melancholic and brutal soundtrack carried by machines played like guitars in a garage, and illustrated by the enigmatic landscapes of Laura Kopf who designed the album's cover.

BRIGADE APACHE - INSOMNIA - Out : April 2023

This release has an interesting fun fact: The main artist, Lucas Maquiavelo aka Artiom, stopped making music a few years ago. One of the remixers, Ethan Fawkes, had the stems of the original in an old HD and asked him if he would like to have his track released this year along with a few new versions. Lucas, fortunately, agreed with the idea.

The single, “Spirits Are Here”, comes with solid interpretations by The Dark Robot, Grandchaos, and aforementioned Ethan Fawkes, the curator of the peculiar endeavour and also co-owner of the label Nu Body Records, established in 2018.

A seasoned DJ and producer mainly focused on Old-School Rave Techno and EBM, Ethan is based in Tiff, Belgium, and has been fighting the good fight for almost thirty years but has been in love with music since he was ten years old. The flame is still so hot that he keeps digging “new” tracks in old hard drives.

For his interpretation of “Spirits Are Here”, Mr. Hawkes opened the vaults of his Techno & EBM influences and added shards of Leftfield in the recipe. The result is a fast-paced beast (130 BPM, baby) with a stompy stride and a trippy atmosphere.
