I grew up with this little music box that played a beautiful song, but I had no idea what song it was. One day I tried to play it and found out one of my siblings had broken the crank, so it wouldn't play music anymore. I pulled the music machinery out and on the bottom it said it was "Memory", and hearing the real thing lyrics and all legitimately just had me bawling...

Here is my version of the Act 1 closing number from "La Cage aux Folles." 

I Am What I Am - La Cage Aux Folles

From the  1998 direct-to-film version of one the greatest Broadway musicals of all time, "Memory" (vocalized by Elaine Paige),  is sung by the character Grizabella, an outcast Jellicle Cat and one-time glamour cat who is now a shell of her former self. 
The song is a nostalgic remembrance of her glorious past and a declaration of her wishes to start a new life, and is seen by many as lamentation of repentance and desire for forgiveness.
