UNDERTALE: STORYSHIFT is a reimagining of Storyshift, set in a post-pacifist timeline of Undertale. Many years after Monsterkind had finally been set free, Alphys suggested to her friends that they all dress up as each other for Halloween, playing off the whole "dressing up as monsters" thing that humans were still prone to doing. A lot of them really seemed to like the idea. So much so, that a certain ghostly, theatrical entertainment robot would be inspired to write a stage play for him and his friends to perform in.

After Mettaton's last bit of narration as Frisk approaches the tree stump, the lights dim, save for the spotlight shining on Frisk and the lake, and music starts to fade in, quietly. Alongside this music, quiet whispers fill the room. Whispers of hope. Whispers of despair. Of fear. Of bravery. It's left up to the audience's interpretation what this could be. Could it be Frisk talking to themself? Could it be a spirit from the past? Could it be monsters hiking through the forest? Who knows?

BUFFALO, NY — October 9, 2025 — A new #research paper was #published in Volume 17, Issue 9 of Aging-US on August 22, 2025, titled, “The impact of long-term social housing on biconditional association task performance and neuron ensembles in the anterior cingulate cortex and the hippocampal CA3 region of aged rats.”

The research team led by Anne M. Dankert from Providence College and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, showed that aged rats who lived in socially enriched environments throughout life retained better memory and cognitive flexibility than those housed alone. This study highlights the importance of social interaction in protecting the aging brain.

Cognitive decline, such as memory loss and reduced problem-solving ability, affects many people over the age of 65. While many factors contribute to age-related cognitive decline, this study suggests that one key factor may be surprisingly simple: long-term social connection. To explore how social interaction might influence memory performance and brain activity, the researchers designed a study using rats as a model for aging in humans.

They compared three groups of rats: young adults, aged rats housed alone, and aged rats housed socially in groups. All groups had access to the same physical enrichment, such as exercise and stimulating objects, but only some experienced lifelong social companionship. The team tested these animals on a complex memory challenge known as the biconditional association task, which requires animals to make context-based decisions—an ability that typically declines with age.

The results showed that aged rats living in social groups performed just as well as young adults on the memory task, while those housed alone showed significant impairments. Socially housed rats also made fewer working memory errors and required less effort to complete cognitive tasks, suggesting not only better performance but more efficient brain function. These benefits were not observed in aged rats who received only environmental enrichment without social interaction.

Brain imaging revealed additional differences between the groups. Socially housed aged rats showed increased activity in the hippocampus, particularly in the CA3 region, which plays a key role in forming and separating memories. In contrast, aged rats that lived alone had lower activity in this region, which may explain their poorer performance. Interestingly, socially housed rats also showed reduced overactivity in the anterior cingulate cortex—a brain area involved in attention and decision-making—suggesting a more balanced and efficient neural response.

This research provides new insight into how lifelong social experiences shape brain health during aging. While earlier studies have shown that physical activity and cognitive stimulation help preserve cognitive function, this study identifies social interaction as an independent and powerful protective factor. The findings are consistent with human studies showing that older adults who remain socially active tend to experience slower cognitive decline and stronger brain function.

Overall, these results emphasize that brain aging is not inevitable but may be influenced by our social environments. This research suggests that fostering lifelong social connections could be a critical, low-cost strategy to protect memory and mental flexibility in older adults.

There are traces we leave on walls, marks of where the water once rose and receded. This is a song about returning to familiar rooms and finding them subtly, irreversibly changed. About tracing the ghosts of former tides with fingertips, trying to remember when the flood still had the power to rise.
"Watermarks" opens my new album "The Dissolution" with quiet confrontation—the first glance at what remains when the flood retreats. Piano and cello weave through spaces thick with memory, while the voice navigates the careful cartography of loss.
This is music for late nights and early mornings. For the moments when you return somewhere familiar and realize everything has shifted, just slightly, but enough to make you a stranger in your own history.

Echo Fever is a dark, synth-driven project with Joseph Matthews as its creative engine, dedicated to exploring the intersections of trauma, desire, memory, and survival. The music blends lush, pulsing electronic landscapes with raw, confessional storytelling, inviting listeners into a world that is both painfully intimate and cinematic in scale.

This is not safe, casual listening. Echo Fever’s work confronts subjects many would rather avoid. Tracks delve into lived experiences of grooming, sexual violence, addiction, dissociation, hypersexuality, and the long, uneven process of reclaiming selfhood. The intent is never to exploit or shock for its own sake. Each song serves as testimony, giving voice to what is often left unsaid and illuminating realities rarely addressed in art.

The debut album, TRIGGERS, functions as a psychological experiment framed by music. It begins with hypnotic, club-ready production that gradually fractures into vivid portraits of mania, overdose, sexual violation, and survival. Every beat seduces and destabilizes, pulling the listener deeper until they are immersed in a narrative that refuses to look away.

The follow-up, CUT, is a conceptual narrative album chronicling one boy’s experience from the moment of coercion at fourteen through years of silence, displacement, rage, and relapse. Each track builds on the last, creating an unrelenting emotional and psychological arc grounded in brutal realism. CUT does not offer comfort or closure. It stands as a work of witness, giving voice to survivors who have endured in silence and revealing the long shadow of post-traumatic life with stark clarity.

Echo Fever is currently developing even now, a project that turns its focus to fragile queer adolescence and the bruised beauty of trying to understand love, identity, and self-worth. Still in progress, it promises to add another layer to the evolving narrative of trauma, tenderness, and reclamation that defines Echo Fever’s body of work.

These albums are not abstract. They are rooted in authentic human experiences and created with deliberate emotional intent. While financial constraints have necessitated the use of AI-generated and or AI-assisted vocals on the recordings, every lyric and composition is original and deeply personal. The urgency to give these stories voice has always outweighed the need for perfect tools. At the center of Echo Fever is a commitment to telling the truth, however fractured or uncomfortable that truth may be.

Content includes explicit themes of trauma, abuse, and survival. Listener discretion is advised.

Echo Fever does not aim to provide sanctuary from hard realities. Instead, it offers an unflinching reflection of what it means to endure, to break, and to find uneasy moments of beauty in the aftermath. This is music for late nights and vulnerable spaces, for anyone who needs art that does not soften or lie.
