The latest release from Astral Records welcomes Deciduous to the label for their debut EP. Based in Ireland, the Deciduous production duo was conceptualized in 2017 with a mission to bring their synth-laden progressive tracks to the dance floor. Two years spent perfecting their craft eventually led to 2019 releases via 3rd Avenue, Awen Records and Parquet Recordings. 2020 then saw similar successes with the Dublin residents showcasing their music on Eternity Sounds and Running Clouds. Now following an EP on Vagabond Recordings to begin 2021, Deciduous step up to Astral Records with a three-track showcase entitled 'Other World'.

'Endangered presents The Sky Above Us by Ra; the label debut from an emerging artist out of the Mexican electronic scene.

An upcoming talent based out of Mexico City, Raúl Contreras (Ra) is part of the new wave of artists breaking through in the Mexican electronic music scene.  His music flows effortlessly between an energetic style of progressive house and melodic techno, a natural fit for the sound of Endangered.  Upon hearing some of his demos, Brian Cid invited Ra to put together an EP, and the result is The Sky Above Us - a brilliant debut on Endangered.

The EP begins with the title track, and in true Endangered style, a sense of tension and drama is created with its cinematic breakdowns.  Many layers of synths weave in and out throughout, which adds to the vibe of this trippy opener.  Following is “Midnight Escargots”, and it brings a combination of dark & haunting synths with a pulsating techno beat.   One can visualize themselves running through a dimly lit cave with this track, and it has a groove that keeps the energy rising throughout.

The dark, but melodic techno theme continues with the 3rd track “My Ghosts”.  A deep, rumbling bass can be felt in your stomach here, and a subtle vocal during the break adds to the eeriness.  The mood is lightened slightly with the concluding “When Our Time Comes”.  The progressive and hypnotic feeling from the opener returns here with its trippy arpeggiated synths, and it signals that this chapter has now come to an end.

Hoito label-head Sascha Braemer makes a welcome return to Marc Romboy’s Systematic this July with the Who Died And Made You King EP. The three-track release includes a remix by former Agents Of Time member, Fedele.

The title track opens proceedings, pairing emotive key changes against Dom Fricot’s poignant vocal tones. It’s a haunting number that leaves us in a state of starry-eyed reflection before Fedele’s Revenge Mix takes on a harder edge. A weighty bassline contrasts Dom’s soothing lyrical contributions, as hard-hitting percussion marches on in the background. Mars 96 completes the EP, featuring ethereal synth pulses, warming pads and whispering hats throughout.

Sascha Braemer has become a familiar figure in the global house scene in a career that spans decades. As label-head of Hoito, the German-native native has welcomed the likes of BOg, Aaaron and Echonomist in recent times. 2021 looks set to be a highlight year for the Systematic-regular, with an array of releases already soon to land on Anjunadeep and Deutsche Grammophon to name a few.
