Alessandro Adriani Presents - British Post-Punk 78-83: 25th March '25

UK based record label Weapons of Desire was born on the 30th November 2017. The brain child of three friends Alex Handley, Mick Clarke and Toni Aslam. Alex and Toni first met Mick two years before when they had a couple of Auto Sound City EPs out on Mick’s long running Flight Recorder label. 

The saying “Being around the block a few times” is an understatement when you look at the recording history of them all. Playing, making and releasing music all the way back to the 80’s (even further in Mick’s case) seemed like a natural progression when talking about a potential label and the vision they had before its creation using their recording names (Iron Blu and Auto Sound City) to make the kind of music they wanted to dance to. The ethos was and still is to release tough dancefloor publications as stated in the label description "Spinning an endless cable of steel sound".

Over the years Weapons Of Desire has released vinyl as single-sided two track hand stamped records, four track EPs, a couple of six track compilations entitled Machine Funk Vol. 1 and 2, double packs and an album. The label Is also now fully integrated with regular digital releases too.

31 releases and a total of 33 different artists, Weapons of Desire has a seat firmly at the table with more chairs added for 2025. Afterall without great music, life would most certainly be a mistake

BIO

Italian dj raised in the outskirts of Geneva, Pastram steps out under the banner of Cruel Machine Booking. Distinctly drawn towards dark atmospheres, Pastram developed a strong focus on raw rhythmics, assuming an intense form of communication where cathartic echoes and cold synths become intricate. An intense musical fusion of the past and the present transcending the line between body music, grinding post punk, industrial, and wave.

With releases on respected labels like Lies, Frigio, DeathDecayMagic, Acero, Mechatronica, and Gravitational Waves, Thorn’s music is a dark, compelling fusion of techno, cold wave, industrial, and postpunk. His sound explores raw atmospheres, driving rhythms, and haunting melodies that evoke both intensity and introspection. This latest podcast mixtape marks his return,
channeling past experience into boundary-pushing productions that invite listeners deep into his shadowy sonic world.

motiv-a is a DJ and producer based in NYC. Her style is driven by the tension between the underbelly of society and the uneasy question of whether humankind is a virus or merely a vessel for its own unraveling. Informed by formative years in the 2000s American DIY and noise underground she is drawn to the grit, resolve, and outsider spirit that shape certain sounds. Her sets move through desire, grief, dissociation, and euphoria with sounds that
bypass language to states of hypnosis, dissonance, and raw physicality.

With its 10th edition, Dalmata Daniel’s split series brings together two artists who have both left their mark on the label’s compilations, now presenting their first full releases on the imprint. Anatolian Weapons and The Spy approach electronic music from different angles, one rooted in hypnotic techno rituals, the other in raw electro and post-punk energy. Both craft sounds that thrive in the shadows of the dancefloor.

On the A-side, Anatolian Weapons delivers three cold, hypnotic cuts. "Trapped" opens with heavy EBM percussion and a buzzkill bassline, setting a tense, mechanical tone. "Further Spiralling Down" sinks deeper into darkness with a grinding low end, tight drums, and electro-tinged claps, forming the side’s relentless highlight. "Apathy Through Shock" closes with pounding, catatonic rhythms and a mournful, otherworldly melody, pushing the listener into disorienting depths.

Flipping over, The Spy’s raw, electro-driven energy takes hold. "Same Blur" channels sharp electro beats with a punkish sneer and cosmic synth lines. "Falling", featuring The Spy’s own vocals, leans into melancholic new wave, pairing bouncy rhythms with bittersweet melodies. The closing "Pretending" drifts into the darkest corners, offering low-slung, haunted electro layered with distant, spectral harmonies.
