Bassiani Podcast 166 guest of the hour is homegrown DJ/Producer Nugo Basilaia, AKA Bassil. The enigmatic Tbilisi-based techno head is a budding fixture on Georgian soil, with a penchant for chopped up beats, glitchy rhythms and left-field selections. RE production work, his debut album ‘Theory of Balance’ was just out last year, something of a compilation of frequencies from outer space, so he’s really only getting started. There’ll be more sounds from the firmament in due time. While he works on them, there’s a new instalment in the podcast series to sate your musical hankering. Nugo’s contribution is a turbo-charged barrage of ominous synthesisers and cyborg rumblings, a reverberating sci-fi score that offers everything from a mutant mash-up of cult classic ‘Clubbed to Death’ through minimal machinations and dystopian breaks. Sinister, thundering techno from the belly of an alien planet.

Sara had her first performance in front of a larger audience in February 2021. Initially, she focused around fast and hard varieties of techno with a bit of a trancy vibe. After some time, she turned towards lighter but not slower sounds. Currently, she draws her main inspirations from the French scene and a fairly young variety of groove techno, a delicate, fast paced kick intertwined with minimalistic sounds.

She contributes to the scene through Theia Crush (@theia-crush), a relatively new project through which she can implement numerous ideas related to the broadly understood organization of events.

A few decades ago, there were no red grapefruits.
The Ruby Red grapefruit, which now accounts for 75% of all grapefruit is the poster child of an experimental form of agriculture known as atomic gardening which uses radioactive cobalt-60 to spur mutations in plants.

The practice gained popularity after WWII as part of the Atoms for Peace program, establishing Gamma Gardens in the worlds nuclear states.

The radioactive source was placed in the middle with plants laid out like slices of a pie, exposing them to varying amounts of radiation.

Closest to the center, the plants would just die, and slightly further out they would grow tumors and other abnormalities, but around the edges a rich variety of mutations would develop, which would be selected for desirable traits and cultivated further.

For a brief period in the 50's and 60's, atomic gardening was quite popular, especially in the UK, where the Atomic Gardening Society would distribute radiated seeds for laymen farmers to grow and report back the results.

Despite the initial hype, the Atomic Gardening Society failed to produce anything of particular interest and as nuclear energy grew increasingly disfavorable in the public eye, atomic gardening became a lot less cool.
