Vertical67’s 13 track debut CD album including a remix by Wisp (Rephlex Records). Thomas Pahl, aka Vertical67, steps up with a full album after a few EP’s on labels like 100% Silk and Lunar Disko. Yet the longplay format surely isn't new to him, as his albums, dating back from 2008-2009 on Acroplane Recordings, prove. With Panta Rhei however, the analog guy from Berlin finds himself in a more calm, serene mood. Pahl made his interest in ambient music clear at an early stage with his ‘The Coloured Chaos’ project. While that project was based around the use of samples and a guitar, the project here is about synth driven textures. A versatile selection of 12 beautiful and very personal tracks. Deep, melancholic moods are present, as well as more lightweight and uplifting moments. To top off this project, Thomas’ friend and acclaimed producer Wisp, aka Reid Dunn (of Rephlex Records fame), delivers a remix of the opening track. With this album, Photic Fields initiate a series of CD releases, that focuses on the (even) more quiet, home-listening vein within the electronic music spectrum. Vagon Brei, aka Victor Ramos, known for great albums on Legowelt's Strange Life Records and Seattle's Further Records, is back with a full length CD album. A project inspired by and dedicated to Richard Feynman: the scientist, the teacher, the explorer, the visionary and the raconteur. His scientific curiosity, zest for life and eccentric personality were tried to be captured in music, produced by a true admirer of the man. Madrid’s Analogical Force continues its run proudly to present ‘Welkin EP’, second in the catalogue and first from Niagara Falls, NY-based Reid Dunn (well known as WISP) under his misterious DWAALLICHT alias. Many -like us- have been looking forward long time for this stuff, now the wait is over.

Just when the 10th anniversary of the still acclaimed ‘NRTHNDR’ album on now-defunct Sublight label, and six years after ‘We Miss You’ and ‘The Shimmering Hour’ on the Rephlex camp, the Aphex Twin-approved producer is back exploring spectral acidish territories, intricate drum patterns with thick synths, nervous breaks and rhythms, nostalgic rising-falling melodies...waving this elements to his will. It seems that Reid has deemed the time right to do what he does best. A record so immune to contemporary styles and aesthetics are almost by definition timeless, and it's tempting to call ‘Welkin EP’ that.

Dwaallicht doesn’t hide his influences; AFX, Squarepusher and Mike Paradinas are obvious reference points, but add Tangerine Dream, Phuture 303 or Mr Fingers to the mix and you’ll get a sense of the scope of Reid’s personal vision. 

Braindancers: ‘Welkin EP’ will all remind you exactly why you loved this talented guy for so long and why hes one of the most uncompromising artists working in electronic music this days.

I mean it was for luke's competition but when I was making it I obviously had other thoughts going around me ed. Was hard keeping it a secret from him, i had an advantage, i knew better than most what luke liked !-)  I gave the prize to the runner up, i forgot his name now. It's quite quiet becuase the sub is so loud and low, trade/off. \ Won the Future Music competition for the best Luke Vibert remix. WeMe035 François de Roubaix & Bernard Maitre "Le labyrinthe des Onix" EP

In 1972 Francois de Roubaix and Bernard Maitre composed together the music of a TV series for children presented by puppets, called the Onix. The musical oddity here released by WeMe Records is a part of this OST. This piece of music demonstrates once again that Francois de Roubaix was in touch with all kinds of music of his time, including contemporary music. In this experimental track we can feel the influences of the composer Pierre Henry, an other explorer of unknown sounds.
 On the B side Jodey Kendrick makes his own interpretation of this music with current tech and sounds while keeping the atmosphere and fantasy of the original sound.
 Attention "Non music" !

WeMe035 "Le labyrinthe des Onix" jodey kendrick version MP3

I was lucky enough to play a 4.5 hour DJ set at the Cocoon Lounge stage at Rainbow Serpent Festival this year on Sunday morning from 2:30am til 7:00am. This is the final two and a quarter hours of the set recorded live at the festival. This was easily one of my favourite DJing experiences of 12 years on the job and I had a really great time.

First appearance of this small-scale vinyl imprint from the east of Holland with a split-release by the well-respected Aroy Dee (MOS, Delsin, Rush Hour, Dolly) and Perseus Traxx (Bunker, MOS). Both of them are known for their deep analogue house music productions with raw and sharp edges, but most recognizable in their work is the presence of true emotions. This will also be the distinctive element for the labels future output: emotive and raw electronic music with the soul deep within. After some great records on Lunar Disko, Ireland’s Automatic Tasty now arrives with ‘The Joys Of Departure’ on Photic Fields. With this piece the label continues its way to put out deep emotion-drenched electronic music.  Inspired by his beloved nature near his hometown, especially the Sugar Loaf, Tasty produced these introspective tracks. Pure analogue works, with beautiful chords and melodies. Although his influences are noticeable, AT has developed a sound that is completely his own, giving no attention to trends, ever-copying artists or useless genre-indications. This is not a man from the big city, but from some quiet place in Eastern Ireland. This EP includes four recent works by AT, and shows the variety of his productions. Recommended for Aphex Twin-fans, and even though that category is already pretty large, it's in fact recommended for everyone who likes their music melancholic yet uplifting.

Apparat, aka Sascha Ring, will release “Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre)”, an album of music based on Sebastian Hartmann’s theatre production of Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

Sebastian Hartmann is considered one of the big innovators of contemporary German theatre, and asked Ring to contribute to this mammoth project, which was commissioned by the renowned German arts festival Ruhrfestspiele in Recklinghausen.
